GuestI’d be willing to give staylds.com my uplifting podcast episodes. Let me know if ya’ll want them, and if so, which ones. November 13, 2008 at 8:18 pm #214023Anonymous
GuestAre the Bushman interviews available? November 13, 2008 at 8:46 pm #214024Anonymous
GuestI can give ya’ll whatever. Just let me know. Right now everything has been pulled down. November 13, 2008 at 11:23 pm #214025Anonymous
GuestI archived (for personal use) the whole thing — 5GB+ of audio, video and docs. How can we store documents and podcasts on this site? I noticed you have your essay “How to stay…” in a folder somewhere. I’d like to store more materials.

GuestDo you know how to FTP? November 14, 2008 at 12:36 am #214027Anonymous
GuestYes. I know enough about IT and networking to be dangerous to myself and those around me, but not enough to get paid for it

GuestValoel – my respect for you just increased – as if that was possible! November 16, 2008 at 3:26 am #214029Anonymous
GuestSo before I give you FTP access — here’s the really tough question: Which, if any, of my episodes are uplifting in the LONG run. I’m starting to feel like all of them are unintentionally insidious, in that that they lead too many down the slippery slope of disaffection. Even the Bushman ones will introduce people to all sorts of stuff they didn’t know about.
Let me know if you can think of any.

GuestI don’t agree that there is anything insidious in the Bushman ones. We don’t need to hide history, and he presents it as openly yet neutrally as I’ve seen. Yet he is ultimately faithful. I’d probably bag the Toscano stuff, although I did more than one spit take while listening to it.

GuestI agree that not all of the podcasts are good for this site. I think a lot of them are though. Remember the target audience of this site — people who are struggling to stay in the Church AFTERa crisis of faith. So the damage (or blessing of being challenged, keeping it positive) has already been done. Could we accidentally introduce someone to a new issue? Sure, but we are working with people who are questioning and really doing soul searching. Once down that path, we have to give people good tools. We can’t be hiding stuff or trying to do the soul-work for them.
The 3 best ones that I can think of off the top of my head:
1. Richard Bushman
2. Greag Kearney (Mormons and Masons)
3. Mormon version of Fowler’s Stages of Faith
Those were incredibly helpful to me personally. I’ll go through the list to see what others I believe are good. I listened to most of the audio podcasts.

GuestI agree with Valoel, and I would add the bonus podcast on Iron Rodders & Liahona Mormons. Was that Richard Poll? November 18, 2008 at 8:43 pm #214033Anonymous
GuestHere’s my list of podcasts that seemed good or possibly apporopriate for the site. These were really helpful to me personally.
Many others seem to find benefit from them.
The Roasted Tomatoes interview applies directly to the mission of the site.
-Mormon Stages of Faith
-Richard Bushman, Rough Stone Rolling
-Greg Kearny, Masonry and Mormons
-Finding our way back home (Roasted Tomatoes and Serenity Valley)
-Richard Poll, Liahona Mormons
Some or all of these for the blacks and the priesthood problem:
-Gregory Prince fireside
-Darius Grey – LDS Genesis Group
-Daron Smith Story
Possibly useful for StayLDS site content:
-Elbert Peck – Remnants of Faith
-FAIR – Mind of an Apologist
-Rising Generation Interviews (8 people)
-Ted Lyon Interview
-Thoughtful Faith Interviews (3 people I think)
-Lowell Bennion, 2 interviews. I don’t even know what the content is, but I hear people talk about him a lot.
-Any of the Women in the LDS Church interviews? Claudia Bushman? I recall that being a nice interview.

GuestI agree with Valoel’s list. The first four especially were the first to come to mind. (stages to way back home). December 1, 2008 at 3:42 pm #214035Anonymous
GuestI’m uploading the episodes now. When they’re done uploading, you will find them here:
The blog has the Podpress plug-in enabled, so you can add the episodes as blog entries/podcasts, and then you can give the Podcast feed to iTunes and allow people to subscribe to it (for easiest download).
It’s pretty easy stuff. Let me know if you need help w/ it.

GuestThanks John! Not only is it good material, it will also be a valuable “marketing” draw to bring people to the site. I appreciate it. -
