I guess I had a small realization today. My personal turn from disaffection back toward the church had to do much more with the heart than the mind. I realized that my goal here is to help people let their hearts turn even if their minds won’t. I find myself saying things intended to appease minds so that hopefully their hearts can step forward and lean toward the church. I guess I’m bringing this up because it is basically opposite from the traditional apologist goal – which I believe is to lead the mind.

    I dunno, just thoughts.

Orson, that is exactly my approach.

I honestly can construct ANY argument I want to construct in such a way that I can accept it. My mind is reasonably functional, so I can use to it justify whatever I really want to do, think and believe. Therefore, I use it to seek for ways that contribute to my general happiness and personal growth.

That’s a lot of the approach I take here – to do little more than model how it can be done, at the least, but to show how it can be done and produce real contentment and joy and peace, at the most.

That was a profound and wise insight Orson.

Totally agree. It seems to me that there are other emergent themes as well:

    – embracing diversity

    – becoming more universalist

    – focusing on usefulness over truth

    – detaching one’s mind and reattaching through relationships
