I had a profound thought today.

What if we are in outer darkness right now? There are many scriptures that support the idea that we are. We are blind, seeing darkly, seperated from God, etc.

Another thought. We are the temple of God. The Holy of Holies is inside of us. We need search no further than inside ourselves to find Christ.

D&C 36:8 I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God; wherefore, gird up your loins and I will suddenly come to my temple. Even so. Amen.

1 Cor 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

I think “outer darkness” is the absence of ALL light. I don’t think we are there, just at times go in and out of the shadows, being separated from God during moments, and feeling his love other moments (not constantly though).

Ray’s quote is that we see through a glass, darkly. But there is still some light, just not all clear, which creates the environment to be tested and requires faith.

I like your other thoughts. Our bodies are temples, and the Holy Spirit can come to dwell therein. Inside of us, we need to have peace and love and a heart full of compassion, despite what goes on in the dark and dreary world outside of our bodies.

Thanks for sharing your profound thoughts today.

I haven’t fully figured out the outer darkness idea which is partly why I posted it. Bouncing around ideas seems to help me flesh them out. :)

I’m thinking that outer darkness can describe a personal state in which the person is denying and hiding the Light of Christ [within]. In which case, no light can be found. Here are some scriptures that could plead this case. They also go along with the idea that our body is the temple. I don’t disagree that there could be some kind of cosmic outer darkness, but I think there is validity to a personal outer darkness, too.

    D&C 38: 8

But the day soon cometh that ye shall see me, and know that I am; for the veil of darkness shall soon be rent, and he that is not purified shall not abide the day.

    1 Cor. 13: 12

For now we see through a glass [veil], darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

    2 Ne. 27: 29

And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity and out of darkness.

D&C 95:6 They who are not chosen have sinned a very grievous sin, in that they are walking in darkness at noon-day.

@just me – another interesting idea along these lines is the idea of multiple probations. It’s like a Mormon version of reincarnation. So, what if we get as many turns on earth as it takes to evolve into the kind of Person we need to become?

I love these sorts of thoughts. I’ll have a go at it.

    coupled with this

is very insightful. In fact, this is how I prefer to think of it. Outer darkness, I think, is a state of mind, a state of spirituality, not a literal, physical place. Each one of us at any time could be in “outer darkness.” Excellent thought.

Absolutely!! This is exactly what I’ve been trying to say lately. I would go even further. Eternal life is inside us, right now, and we can find it right now.

I really like this too. I never before gave the ideas (both literal and metaphorical) of reincarnation a chance in my TBM state. I now find the ideas very intriguing.

    Keep the good thoughts coming!!

Yes, I’ve been pondering the multiple probations/reincarnation idea, too! What if we are here until we “get it” and I might go so far to say have our own personal second coming of Christ.

Making the second coming a personal event would make all the prophesies true about it happening in “this generation.”

I would go so far to say that the antichrist is our ego (our false self).

    @just me

Good thoughts. I think this is a distinct possibility.

I actually do have some further thoughts on the idea that we’re here until we “get it.” I think I’ll put this in a future post though. I am wondering what “get it” means, and wondering what that means for me individually. It is in this vein that I’ll post in the near future.
