Well, I’ve been lurking here for awhile. My wife and I actually recently embraced (I won’t say converted to) fundamentalist Mormonism after all our adult lives in the Church. We’re in our early 50’s, love the church and recognize it as a devine instituion although, in my opinion, somewhat temporarily out of order.

I’m not looking to interject fundamentalist ideas or engage in arguements…I’m more interested in adding to discussions that I can contribute to and staying out of those where I can’t. I guess I’m just saying this as sort of a disclaimer because I remember well my attitude toward fundamentalists when I was a mainstream Church member.

I love the Church and have no problem with seer stones, polygamy, etc….in fact, I embrace it. I see no reason to powder coat the truth. It gets a lot of baptisms, but then when people find out the true history, many leave. Why not just tell it like it is up front?

I know, I know….milk before meat but it sure seems to cause problems.

    My opinion only……..mileage may vary.

Welcome Bruce, I, for one, look forward to your comments. I would love to hear your thoughts on fundamentalist Mormonism. I always feel enriched when I consider the viewpoints of others.

Don’t be afraid to post your beliefs! This seems to be a pretty mature group-we allow for difference even if we don’t agree. I like it here. We love hashing out ideas together.

It sounds like you and I would probably agree that there has been an apostacy-we just differ in when we think that occurred.

    Welcome!

    Bruce in Montana,

Welcome. I would love to hear your slant on the discussion we’re having in this thread about polygamy, if you are interested in sharing…

Trying to make sense of Joseph Smith

There are a lot of posts, but he last 2 pages are specifically discussing JS and Polygamy.

    Welcome to the forum. :)

Bruce, you and I know each other from other blogs, and you have been respectful there. Frankly, that is why your participation here was accepted, even though you really don’t fit the general model for this forum. (You know that, so it’s nothing new or surprising.) I also look forward to your participation, as long as it fits the model you stated in your introduction. Knowing what I do of you through our interaction elsewhere, I believe it will be just fine.

I just posted a comment about my husband going the fundamentalist direction, but I’m just NOT feeling it. Please read my comment and help me out with any ideas you might have. I just picked up the book “In Sacred Loneliness” about the plural wives of Joseph Smith. I am not bothered by his marriage to single women, but I take issue with his marriages to women who were already married. Also the whole Adam-God doctrine has me quite perplexed to say the least. Rather than drawing me to the Fundamentalist beliefs, this is all causing me question whether the church is true at all or whether church is really necessary to worship.

    thanks for your thoughts,

    redhatjunker
