This is not going to be a long, profound post, but one of the students with whom I’m communicating as part of my job has a tagline for her e-mails that I absolutely love – and I think it encapsulates beautifully and succinctly something that really is profound.

All of are born into a world of struggle and turmoil – of some sort and to some degree. In the middle of all of that, I hope we can understand and remember something very simple yet profound:

    Quote:

“Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain!!”

I love this, Ray. Certainly something that I think God is trying to teach me. I don’t suppose I am ready to dance yet, but I am learning that my trials or circumstances don’t need to rule over my feelings, thoughts, and attitudes. They don’t have to disturb my inner peace or make me stop loving myself or others. Or even make me doubt the love of God for me.

Thanks for the uplift today. I feel invited to explore what the “dancing in the rain” might look like.

I saw this post after posting on the “Reaching” thread, so, what I said on that thread. 😆 😆

I found this post today and felt like I should bump it up for current discussion.

I came across this five-year old post tonight and want to add something to what I wrote initially:

    Quote:

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.

When we are going through a “crisis” or “transition” or “trial” of any kind (a “storm of life”), we can rail against the causes of those storms – or we can figure out how to dance in the rain.

How each of us dances will vary as much as dances vary in the world. In fact, I dare say there are more kinds of unique dances than there are unique kinds of storms. “Enduring” doesn’t have to mean “looking down and plodding forward”; it also means “lasting” – as in “enduring love”.

Storms drench those who are not sheltered while the rain falls, but storms also cleanse and clean and purify and provide nourishment. If we can see what we experience as much in terms of “cleansing, nourishing rain” as we do in terms of a “refiner’s fire” (understanding there are both, and not all trials burn as they cleanse – that some are meant to wash things away), we can begin to identify those situations that burn and those situations in which it is possible to dance.

I hope, as much as possible, we choose to dance.

Reminds me of a story my mission president’s wife told us. About a person taking their flying test. Things were going really well, when all of a sudden the examiner started flipping switches, grabbing the throttle, and making all kinds of unexpected things happen.

The student being tested said “Hey — what are you doing messing all this up???” The flight examiner said “I know you can fly when things are going well, I want to see how you fly when everything is chaos”.

    Never forgot that.
