GuestQuote:HOW TO EXPERIENCE GOD
It is not in one spectacular experience that you come to know Me intimately. It is living with Me every hour of every day.
You will see My face in all that is around you.
You will see Me in all of nature–the trees and sky and flowers, the sea, and the animals.
You will see Me in the faces of those who love you and whom you love.
You will see Me in the faces of all you meet and touch each day, for I am there.
You will hear Me speaking from everywhere. I am not limited; I speak in My written Word, in the writings of others, in the singing of birds, in the laughter of children.
Listen, for you cannot miss My voice. I will speak to you through the words of people. Their voices will bring you My messages.
I am in every circumstance, in every situation. I am everywhere, in everything, and I can use everyone, even if they don’t recognize it.
You cannot miss Me if you but look and listen, for it is in your own eyes and in your own ears, that you will see and hear Me.
It is in choosing to see the good in everything that happens to you, to take the blessing from each moment, each new day, each encounter with others.
It is in seeking Me, day after day, year after year, and finding Me always there, always waiting, always loving, always merciful, and always giving that you will learn to find the best in every person and situation and take from each the gifts that they bring.
You will experience Me and My presence when you see Me in all things.
Thought I would share these great thoughts going in to the weekend!

GuestThat’s beautiful. Truly, if we are not receiving many revelations daily (and often I don’t), it’s not God’s fault. August 29, 2009 at 11:53 pm #222577Anonymous
GuestAbsolutely love this!!!! Thanks, hawkgrrrl, beautiful! Sorry to beat the drum, but it sounds/feels so similar to “let go and let God” as well as staying “present”.

GuestHere is another post that should be bumped up. Alot of times we think, the way to experience God is “X, Y or Z”.
By that I mean:
– Sacrament meeting.
– Stake conference.
– General conference.
As I get older, I find I can experience God through:
– Reading scriptures or a good book.
– Playing or talking to my grandchildren or my children.
– Talking to a good friend.
– Sharing my thoughts or ideas (about anything). It doesn’t have to be related to the gospel.
– It can be the lyrics to a song.
How do you experience God?

GuestMy daughter wrote an essay (heavily influenced by our own Amy) that theorized the whole world to be the fertile womb of God. We think that she is so far away, but she is instead feeding us with her own bodies nutrients in the air that we breath and the food that we eat. The sun is her beating heart giving warmth and life to all. She is in us and around us and through us. She is everything we touch and feel. God has historically been compared to different professions, perhaps thinking of God as “mother” might add some new perspectives to the mix.

GuestFor me, anytime I feel real joy or happiness, in a small way I am experiencing God. For example, some of you are going to find this silly. (I don’t care.)
When our boys were growing up, we had a Golden Retriever. Her name was Libby.
We would take her to the dog park on a regular basis. She loved it. All you had to do was
say, “Do you want to go to the park?” She would get all excited & run around until you got
her into the car. She knew the route & the closer you got, the more excited she would get.
One day I took her to the park. It was a warm fall day. The weather was ideal & there were
monarch butterflies flying around. We went off the normal trail & Libby began to run in a
figure 8 around my feet. She seemed to be in her version of her celestial heaven. Later, she
socialized with some of her friends, both dog & human.
This day it was just the two of us. Other times, I took my wife & children with me.
It was times like this that we had some of our best conversations. Maybe it was because we
had no distractions. That is one way I try to experience God. It’s silly, I know.

GuestJoseph experienced God through a stone in a hat. I think you are well justified to experience God through your faithful animal companion at the dog park. April 11, 2024 at 7:36 pm #222582Anonymous

How do you experience God?
I think I experience God in many of these same ways. Less so from church (SM, SC, GC) these days, but not impossible.
In your other post you mentioned the dog park experience. I have a wonderful retirement companion (that is his job), and he also loves the dog park or just the regular park (we have an area where he can be off leash). He is so happy during those times, and it makes me happy. I also enjoy the time with my adult children who are spread out across the country, even though they are at best semi-active in the church.
Just being out and about in nature is a great experience for me and I would say I feel closer to God when I am (most of the time). Many of these experiences have been when walking or hiking, but recent experiences show it can happen in other natural spots. Where we were it was cloudy of the recent eclipse (we did get some looks at it when there were breaks) but it was still awe inspiring in a subtly spiritual kind of way. I should note we were also in an area with several hundred other people around us, although not really crowded. I was also recently at Niagara Falls, and there were lots of people, although nowhere near the summer crowds. We haven’t been there in several years, and there have been many positive changes/upgrades to the state park where you can literally stand at the tops of the falls. Again, it was a sublime experience.
And sometimes just the “being still” brings that experience. It can be outdoors or indoors, but usually does require the absence of other distractions like TV or phone. Certain people and the dog are fine.
I think when it comes to experiencing God (I like the term) we humans, and maybe especially church members tend to put God in a box. As you point out we can experience God by X, Y & Z. I won’t dispute that, it’s absolutely possible and probably common. But there are at least 23 more letters, and if we try I believe we can experience God with A through W as well.

GuestMy sincere and non-flippant answer is: However we individually do. Of course, that is why so many people struggle to accept the way others experience God, even humble, sincere people. They want simplicity and certainty about something that is neither simple nor certain.
