GuestNext year Gospel Doctrine is rotating to the Old Testament. I am about half-way through this audio lecture series, and I think it is excellent material. I like the OT and have read a couple books about the history. Yale University made their Intro to OT class available online for free. I downloaded the whole lecture series and listen to it while driving (I have long commutes). It’s first rate stuff.

GuestThanks Valoel I just want to add my thanks for the link, I’ve just about got all the mp3s downloaded and I’ve listened to about 10 of them while working on the tractor over this week. The great thing is that though the professor is an academic and tells her class that she basically assumes for the purposes of the course that most of the Pentateuch is not historical she then goes on in a very inspired way to present all the material. She would make a great Sunday School teacher though many of her topics aren’t part of the manual’s lesson plans. Wonderful resource.

GuestHi All One more comment on the Yale course: there is a link on the website to download the notes, this is well worth doing. It is in a zip file so set up an empty folder and put the file into it before you unzip it. This gives you access to handouts for each lecture and a complete transcript of each lecture, which seem so far to about 10 pages per lecture, just as good reading as listening.

GuestBill, I’m up to class 5. Do you know if she talks about Balaam? I’m preparing a Balaam post, and wondering if there is anything interesting. I downloaded the zip file, but it doesn’t seem to work very well. When I click on the links, they’re all bad links. I found the transcripts folder, but none of the links work which makes navigation difficult. Are you having the similar problems?

GuestMH I can’t recall off hand anything about Baalam sorry to say, it may be there but I have now completed the set once through and it doesn’t come to mind. I’ve just called up the three lectures that deal with some aspect of Numbers and done a search on Balaam and it didn’t turn up any stuff, sorry.
I haven’t had any trouble with the unzipping. I get a main folder “rlst145” inside of which is “rlst145” inside of which is “Introduction-to-the-Old-Testament” inside of which is “content” and “IMS”. In the “introdution-to-the-Old-Testament” folder is the file is “start.html” and that gives access to everything and the links work fine. It does seem to be a bit of a complicated unzipping but the actual material is located down 3 levels. Hope this helps.

GuestThanks for the info. Perhaps Vista is causing the problems. I’m able to read the transcripts, but I wish the html links would work. No big deal though. September 28, 2009 at 7:21 pm #222982Anonymous
GuestMH I went to the Yale site, went through each of the session outlines and for some of the lessons there are “Resources” at the bottom of the page, those I was able to download. I haven’t been successful downloading from the unzipped session pages at all I guess because they are deep inside my hard drive and try to find stuff there instead of heading out to the Internet. Just a thought.
