Guesthttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmuth_H%C3%BCbener As most of you know, young Helmuth was an LDS youth living in Nazi Germany. He actively resisted Hitler and was executed for treason. I have always admired him and want to purchase his biography for family reading.

GuestIt is very interesting that the Nazi Resistance was lead by a 17 year old, German, Latterday Saint Youth. He paid with his own life. I am looking forward to a movie about his life, entitled, Truth and Treason. September 11, 2009 at 3:24 pm #223080Anonymous
GuestWow! The things that escape the culture! I am dumbfounded. What a hero, this boy. September 11, 2009 at 3:51 pm #223081Anonymous
GuestYea, I am excited for the movie. I understand that Haley Joel Osmoth, an acclaimed actor, will portray Helmuth. There are very few films which portray LDS youth in historical settings and so this is unique. September 11, 2009 at 5:43 pm #223082Anonymous
GuestWallace, Thanks so much for posting this. I only recently became aware of this young man. It is truly an amazing story. I was born after WWII in Berlin Germany. My dad was a soldier in the Germany Army and was also an American prisoner of war in France for a year. He joined the lds church in his late twenties as a single man as did my mom as a single woman. My bed time stories were about their experiences in WWII Germany. My dad had a very strong testimony of the church and genealogy program and all the stories were very faith promoting. My dad was in the German junior Olympics as a young man in shot put and hammer throwing. The German government took note of what a strong young man he was and asked him to become a body guard for Hitler. This was a great honor and the job would have many perks. My dad did not know how evil Hitler was at this time, but when they asked him to sign a paper saying that his only God would be Hitler, he quickly learned what maniac Hitler was. He would not sign the paper and said his only God is Jesus Christ. Thank Goodness he never accepted this job or our family could have never come to America. My mother suffered terribly during the war with my three older brothers in Berling. Two women named Patricia Reece and Karola Reece wrote a book called “We Were Not Alone” How an lds family survived WWII Berlin. All of chapter 7 is about my mom and 3 brothers and how these sisters saved my families life. The horrors of war are so terrible but we have an obligation to fight against unrighteous laws and regims.

GuestThanks so much, Bridge, Everything I have learned about Medical Ethics and how to treat individuals with genetic disorders (including those with disorders of sexual development and differentiation) I learned from the Germans.
We had a training film starring James Watson (Watson and Crick elucidated the structure of DNA). Watson tours the gas chambers where human beings were euthanize simply because they were the wrong race, the wrong sexual orientation or had some feebleness. After watching that film, and hearing the German survivors of WW2 speak, I had a renewed determination to not just learn Medical Ethics, but to PRACTICE IT.
I had served briefly on the Utah State Department of Health’s Genetic Screening Improvement Committee. I realize that human life is so much more than just DNA – our genes, our race or our sexual orientation. Our Creator has such a “higher purpose” and it is our mission to learn it.
Since WW2, the Germans have become the leader in teaching other nations how to practice the highest ethical standards, in medicine and in human rights. I aspire to achieve what they have accomplished and want to bring those standards to Utah.
