A New Kind of Christian – Brian McLaren

A New Kind of Christian by Brian McLaren is a book I’m reading on a recommendation from an Evangelical friend. It’s about navigating faith in a post-modern world. It’s “philosophical fiction,” which means it’s a bunch of conversations between a fictional struggling pastor and his fictional teacher friend, grappling with issues of faith, identity, certainty, etc. There’s not much plot, mostly just their conversations.

I’m not done with it yet, but so far I find that it’s really speaking to me about the crisis of faith I’ve experienced over the past couple of years. Though it’s not written to a Mormon audience (it’s geared to an evangelical Christian audience), I’ve found it perfectly applicable to my situation. I’m anxious to discover what kinds of conclusions the author has in store; hopefully it’s not heavy-handed. So far, it’s been very open.

Anyway, I’ll let you know what I think as I finish it, but thought I’d pass it on as something interesting.
