. . . by his own hand upon papyrus: a new look at the Joseph Smith papyri by Charles M. Larson
Just starting this book, which attempts to explain the controversy behind the Book of Abraham and look at the papyri themselves. The book contains a beautiful fold-out of the papyri that is simply stunning and a pleasure to study. Not having a clue about egyptian, I think I understand a little how JS and others must have felt looking at these ancient documents.
I obtained it as a free offer to Mormons (just pay shipping) from an anti-organization, but I had heard good things about the book in general and that the pictures of the papyri were “must-have”. The book was accompanied with some anti-literature (it seems the organization is not only anti-Mormon, but anti-Seventh Day, anti-JW, etc.) The proselytizing material appeared to be the typical black/white “biblical christianity” type that says you just need to read this small prayer and you will be saved. Just thought I should give full disclosure before writing my review. . .
