    For those who don’t know, I’m leaving my cushy, high paying job in the beautiful northern California city of Livermore (where we can’t afford a shack, let alone a house), for the cold, starving, dirt poor life of a PhD student in Ann Arbor, Michigan (where we bought a nice big house on a fraction of the salary). :( 😥 I’ll begin work in January on a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan.

    As a result I suspect that for the next month, my activity will likely be low. We are leaving Livermore on Dec 23, spending a few days with family in SLC, Utah, and then on the Dec 29 will begin the drive out to Ann Arbor. I expect that my activity will go back to normal (whatever that means) around the second week of January. I of course will check in, and post somewhat, but I’m not sure what life will be like as we will undoubtedly be very busy.

    @Ray

    It turns out that DW has a friend near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. So we are going to visit him on the way out. The bad news is that I won’t get to meet you right now (maybe later since we’ll be close), but the good news is you won’t have to deal with my obnoxious family! Thanks for the offer though, I really appreciate it.

    I hope all goes well – and that you can visit some other time when you travel to Nauvoo, maybe.

    Congrats on the PhD program. I just finished my Masters, and it is nice to be homework-free.

    Hey…let me know if you want to try again to get together while you’re in the SLC.

    We can commiserate about being poor grad students. ;)

    And count your blessings! At least you’re not old!!!
