I was reminded today of a wonderful little verse that pretty much sums up my testimony. It prompted me to create a thread to share short, concise verses that constitute our own Best Supporting Verses. I’m not thinking of Best Lead Verses or Passages (those that lay out a grand cosmological vision or teach of the mysteries of godliness) but rather those that are easy to remember and provide support in times of struggle and need.

With that introduction, the verse that prompted this thread:

    Quote:

“I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things.” (1 Nephi 11:17)

Please share any other verses that, like this one, sum up in only a few words a message that means a lot to you and gives you support in some way.

It seems that in my recent reading of the gospels I have been pelted with several such verses! I made sure to write them down as I read. Here are two that spoke to me:

    Quote:

“Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” (Mark 9:24)

    Quote:

“Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.” (John 6:26)

Many of us have not seen miracles. But we seek God because at some point we may have been filled by his presence/love/whatever. That’s what keeps me going, hoping, asking God to “Help mine unbelief.”

    Quote:

1 John 4:16…God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Mostly just the “God is love” part. I repeat it to myself often and I think they are possibly the most profound 3 words ever written.

    Quote:

Gal. 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

I have found peace in this scripture:

    D&C 50 wrote:

40 Behold, ye are little children and ye cannot bear all things now; ye must grow in grace and in the knowledge of the truth.

    41 Fear not, little children, for you are mine, and I have overcome the world, and you are of them that my Father hath given me;

42 And none of them that my Father hath given me shall be lost.

    All great scriptues!

    I also love these:

    Quote:

2 Nephi 2:25 – “…men are that they might have joy”

    Quote:

Moroni 7:46 – “Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail—”

    Quote:

and Matthew 5:48 (Orson’s translation): “Love ye therefore perfectly, even as your Father which is in heaven loves perfectly.”

    Romans 8:

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    I hope this is true.

GB, I took out the footnote letters from the passage you shared – since “blove” reminded me too much of “to blave”, and we all know that “to blave” means “to bluff” – and I don’t think you were bluffing.

[Anyone who doesn’t understand that reference: You need to repent and experience life to the cinematic fullest.]

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, nor has the human heart even conceived the things that God has prepared for them that love him.

    Quote:

Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons. But of every nation, he that feareth God and worketh righteousness is accepted of him.

There’s another one I can’t seem to remember anymore.

    Quote:

1 Cor. 15: 10 … by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain

To me, this verse speaks to a thought that is sometimes expressed here. That our differences may be intended to fulfill the measures of our own personal creation in our own unique way and that our uniqueness does not translate well into a tier structure. ;)

    Yes, that one! Also:

    Quote:

“To some it is given by the Holy Ghost to know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he was crucified for the sins of the world. To others it is given to believe on their words, that they also might have eternal life if they continue faithful.”
