GuestAs I sat down at my piano tonight I contemplated what I might be in the mood to play… Les Miserables… no. Phantom of the Opera…. no. Narada… no. I went through and look at many of my books and finally decided what I wanted to play was some Hymns! So then I had to decide which ones I wanted to play and I decided upon, “Be Still My Soul” Hymn no 124. As I finished this one and moved to another one of my favorites “Abide With Me” Hymn no 165 my mind wandered and I came upon something that I had never really thought of before.
With all of my questions and concerns and unknowns, one thing aside from God that can bring overwhelming peace and comfort to my soul is Hymns. Not just the rythm but the words as well. As I played my favorites I also sang them to myself and I couldn’t help but just feel at peace. “Be still, my soul; the Lord is on thy side;… Be still, my soul; thy God doth undertake; To guide the future as He has the past. Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake;” “The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide; When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me… Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me…”
Do you have any Hymns that sing to your soul? Or possibly other things, scripture or thoughts that “sing” to your soul?

Thanks for this…I really love this! “Be Still” – there is great depth in that meaning. For me, I think the best hymns are ones others are singing. I also find it peaceful to bring a group together in unison. I’m not a music guy, but I enjoy hearing others’ talents.

GuestTwo of my favorite hymns! January 29, 2010 at 5:48 pm #227196Anonymous
GuestThanks so much for this thread. I love music and one of my favorite hymns has always been ” Lord, I Would Follow Thee”. It touches me because it helps me to remember that no one is perfect and only God know’s our hearts and what we have been through so I can’t judge anyone. And also to be gentle, kind and loving with everyone and help whenever I can. January 29, 2010 at 6:19 pm #227197Anonymous
GuestLately it’s been by MoTab. I listen to it over and over again in the car. I think it is really the composition of the music that I love, not necessarily the words. I’m in total love with it.“Come Thou Fount”ETA: This version is better:

GuestI have always been partial to primary songs. My favorites are “I Feel My Savior’s Love”, “My Heavenly Father Loves Me” (Whenever I hear the song of a bird…),
“A Child’s Prayer”, “I’m Trying To Be Like Jesus”, “As I Have Loved You, Love One Another”, and “I Am A Child Of God”
Interesting that every single one one these songs is either about Gods love for us, or following Christ’s example.
FYI… When my kids sing “I am a Child of God” instead of singing the line… “has given me an earthly home, with parents kind and dear” they instead sing… “with parents kind of weird.”

Also love “Come Thou Fount”. The
Reflections Of ChristCD is my all-time favorite. BEAUTIFUL! January 29, 2010 at 6:57 pm #227199Anonymous

Reflections Of ChristCD is my all-time favorite. BEAUTIFUL! 😆 My 2 year old loves Jesus Wants me For a Sunbeam and I am a Child of God. Mostly because I use them as lullabyes and now he asks for them. So cute!
A Child’s Prayer has always been my favoritest primary song of all time.
Here is my family’s favorite Christian Worship song. We all sing it together as we drive down the road. Fun times!

God be With You ‘Til We Meet Again-can’t usually get through this without tearing up.
The Spirit of God-Probably my favorit hymn.
O Holy Night-All time favorite Christmas song. I looooooooove the “fall on your knees” part.
I love how some songs just become a part of me.
