Just finished this 500 page book last night.

I thought it was well done. There are differences between these journals and what is recorded in the History of the Church. I think the HoTC uses some extra materials and some of the journal entries are worded differently. So, I didn’t feel like I was reading the exact same thing, but sometimes I would think “Oh, I remember this part.” ;)

It was so interesting to see the changes from the beginning of the journals to the end. The very last year or two are particularly interesting. Joseph seems to be paranoid of enemies and apostates. Quick to cut people of and quick to forgive them. A paradox.

A lot of his recordings present paradox. Fascinating stuff.

There were some dry parts where boring court cases are recorded. However, some of the court cases are very interesting. So, I’m glad they are included.

It is hard to read the denials of polygamy and the denouncing of those who tried to expose it.

It was funny to read the politics. I dunno. It was just strange.
