There is a post by brynngal asking about places to look for getting started with church history. I gave her a pretty good start I think. I almost recommened a site http://www.lds-mormon.com but then took it out. I’m wondering what your opinions are on that site. I have, in the past, found the site to be a fairly good source of accurate information. They list books by apologists, as well as critics, so it’s a bit of a mixed bag.

I didn’t want to link to anything considered anti-mormon so I left it out. I’m not sure if there are better websites dedicated to an “unbiased” overview. Most of the ones that list the lesser known, and highly controversial whitewashed facts are definitely bent anti-Mormon.

I don’t know. I have also found some valuable sources there, but I think the general tone is more against remaining with the church than with. I think you were probably right to leave it off – erring on the side of caution.

The websites our there are really a mixed bag. It seems that the people most motivated generally to publish websites with controversial aspects of Church history lean more strongly in the negative. I think books are the highest quality resources these days, as old-fashioned as that might seem. There’s a full range in the perspective out there, they tend to be better researched and documented, and many have stood the test of time (Fawn Brodie, Michael Quinn, Richard Bushman, etc.).
