Rather than the usual threads about the boundaries of the WoW, I was wondering about what people like to drink which stays within the strict mainstream interpretation of it.

(So if we can stay off debates on this thread please – this is an advice thread not a definition one. I’ll be happy to discuss that elsewhere. Also no health debates please!)

What herbal teas do you like? What NON-alcoholic beverages do you like? What works for you as a decent substitute for tea and coffee?

I like root beer, but I have to stick to the diet version to keep the calorie count down. Not a big fan of any hot drinks or even warm drinks I will drink Non alcoholic beer from time to time.

My beverage of choice is non-fat milk. Not very exciting. My favorite herbal tea is red tea / rooibois (sp?). I don’t drink caffienated drinks, but occasionally drink a juice.

One of my favorite parts about traveling in Egypt is the wide array of drinks offered there since drinking alcohol is “discouraged”.

I do buy hot chocolate from the coffee shop on cold mornings, it is comforting to hold a warm cup on a cold day.

Rooibos tea, hot chocolate, throat coat tea, Henry Weinhard root beer, occasionally a red bull, home made vegetable juice.

Red Bull does nothing though, as far as I can tell, other than taste a bit weird.

I’ve lost a lot of weight this past year by drinking lots of water, with cucumber, lemon or lime, and not much of anything else.

I have a Caro most mornings (it’s a hot barley drink). I also enjoy rosehip (or any red berry) teas. Also peppermint. I usually steep herb teas for several minutes and squeeze the bag or even use two, else they’re too weak. An occasional hot chocolate with extra whipped cream is a nice treat.

If I’m out with friends/colleagues I’ll have a diet coke or ginger beer.

I don’t like the flavour of non-alcoholic wine/beer, so that’s not of interest.

I have a little problem with sugary sodas…I need to do what Ray did.

Celestial Seasonings has a number of excellent herbal teas. In the wintertime, Starbucks has this caramel apple cider that is heavenly.

I had an IBC root beer last week with my colleagues when we went to a restaurant to unwind after a tough meeting.

Lemonade is the best…I just can’t have it anymore due to instant heartburn.

And it may be childish, but I still like Kool-Aid. So sue me.

If I could afford it I would drink Bundaberg rootbeer constantly. Unfortunately buying imported Australian rootbeer is for special occasions only. But I think tomorrow shall be one. ;)

Crystal Light just released three new flavors: Margarita, Appletini, and Mojito. I’ve only tried the Margarita flavor one. Now usually I hate Crystal Light but love margaritas. This actually worked for me. Probably only because I haven’t had the real thing in 6 years…but I digress.

I also like most herbal teas. They are just really weak to me even with several tea bags thrown in. I also like Rooibos with cream and sugar. It’s the closest approximation to drinking regular tea I’ve found. Yerba Mate is a bit earthy for my taste but not bad with enough sugar.

I find non-alcoholic beer to be gross most of the time. But there are some that aren’t too bad. I also enjoy alcohol-removed wine occasionally. The only one I can find is called Sutter Fre. There’s a few varieties.

Another of my absolute FAVORITES is fresh squeezed lemonade made with fresh-picked mint.

Here in Utah there is a new thing called Crio. It’s basically cocoa beans roasted and ground like coffee and prepared the same. There are even a couple cafes that serve it exclusively and have almost the same menu as Starbucks just using roasted cocoa beans instead of coffee. The flavor isn’t the same but it’s a much closer approximation than regular hot cocoa and lends itself better to caramel macchiatos. It’s also becoming available in grocery stores around here. It’s brewed in coffee machines using the same filters and everything. It’ll be interesting if it really takes off.

Thanks everyone for keeping on topic!

    I love redbush/rooibos, it’s a real life saver.

As for water, yeah, it is actually good for you. A lot of people don’t drink enough… it flushes out of your system, but usually without the sugar and chemicals (even if it is flouridated by Communists – I saw that on Dr Strangelove)

Non-alcoholic beer is getting better by the day. I remember it being undrinkable. It’s actually okay now, it’s just I don’t know where to buy it outside the shops. All lager though, and i used to like the darker forms of beer.

I’m partial to root beer, but I only know one shop in town that sells it… plus the local temple. It’s never taken off although McDonalds tried to introduce it.

Crio sounds interesting. Whether it reaches here will depend how it does over there.

Kool Aid… I can roll with that… although I do keep thinking of Jim Jones. 😯

I know what you mean. I was a Guinness man. Non alcoholic lagers don’t compare. Although I think Guinness makes an NA. Just doesn’t export it to the States.

I am offended by the notion that non alcohol beer is “okay.”

    CFR. :)

I am always looking for good lager. The only ones I’ve found have been my own…which I am drinking at this very moment. (7.1% alcohol/volume. 28 IBU.) So CFR on that statement too.

It’s better than it was, but still limited. I like it mainly when I’m with drinkers, I don’t feel left out.

That said, appearance of evil, blah blah… more than once I’ve had to point out the label. I’m not a hypocrite or secret drinker.

Some people say what’s the point but it’s only occasional.
