Guest… when I came home from a week of being at the hospital in the evening with my wife, and being at work during the day, it sure was nice to have the relief society leave lasagna, brownies, a salad, and bread sticks. It brought a tear to my eye when I saw that they had done the dishes, picked up after me, and even washed our whites… I am from Nampa Idaho, went on a mission to Tennessee. Graduated from Ricks (not BYU) in mechanical engineering, and BSU in electrical engineer. Moved the wife out to Illinois, and have been here for 7 years.
Like I say I’m not sure what I think of the church… no one is sure, even though they act like it. You can make decisions, but you should never say they are final… you should just say: “pending further evidence” right?
That doesn’t mean you can’t get mad at things you think are wrong. Anyways, doesn’t seem important, new, novel, or insightful… There is nothing new under the sun. I agree with John Delin, that we shouldn’t re-invent the wheal with all our arguments… I want to outline all the great debates, and make them ours.
I will take it slow, and make sure I fit in.
I hope this community can help me figure out some more reasons to agree or disagree with random things swimming around my head. I would like to get all my arguments, and logic out on the table, take it all apart, and put it back together in some sort of organized manner.

Guestmyclob – Welcome!
I can relate with mixed thoughts & feelings about the LDS church. Isn’t it awesome to have people come out of the wood work to help out in time of need! I love that! I also love the idea of visiting each individual (ideally not leaving anyone out) with home & visiting teaching (mostly visiting
). My husband is still very much believing, yet I’ve seen new perspectives & can’t see things the same way again. But I’m not going to throw the baby out with the bath water. There are some hidden pearls that I’ve been surprised about (but maybe I’ll save that for another thread).
Anyway, I’m in the process of reconsidering everything & reorganizing it too! It’s been exciting, so far!
I look forward to hearing more from you!

Welcome, myclob. I think there will be things that get us mad in the church…but that emotion is something that we can learn from. Why does it make us mad? Do we really understand all that we should around the issue or are we “assuming” or misunderstanding things? While I think there can be valid reasons things make us mad, I don’t find a lot of growth or value in staying emotional about it, but rather internally review these kinds of questions and externally exercise constraint and patience and love so I do not perpetuate the anger onto others unnecessarily.
Even while struggling through some faith issues, which become so emotion-filled for me…anger doesn’t seem to lead to growth…but seems to be in need of keeping it in check so it does not cloud my vision or exaggerate my intentions.

Very wise! I think taking things slowly is healthy. For me, I have been a member of the church my whole life…and that doesn’t change quickly.Glad to have you here in the forum and I look forward to learning from your perspectives!
