I`m not going on a senior mission. Period. Wanna know why?

    1. I`m not the cheerful car salesman “close the deal” kind of guy.

    2. My wife doesnt like cheerful salesman close the deal kind of guys.

    3. I`m not a republican.

    4. I hate wearing suits and ties and shaving.

    5. I hate hate hate hate hate(did i mention an extreme dislike) for bureacracy and paperwork.

    6. Have you seen some of those SPECIMENS that get sent? They remind me of me. Like Groucho said -he wouldnt want

to be in any club that wanted him for a member.

    7. Already been on a mission.

Nuff said, I`m staying home and fishin.

Who wants to talk with richrich and explain the purpose of this site? (see the last comment) I am going to be very busy this weekend – and I’m not sure I’m the right person anyway.

I split this part off and put the rest of the topic back in “SUPPORT.”

I’ll send him a PM letting him know it was too negative, and did not seem to be talking about possible ways to resolve those (valid) feelings.

I had a busy week of travel last week, but should be back and able to read through those support sections to keep an eye on these things with richrich as well.

    My PM to richrich:

    *******************************************************************************************************

    Hi richrich,

I wanted to let you know one of the moderators pulled this comment. The overall idea is fine, but how it was said came across too negative. They are all valid points. If you can frame the same sentiment perhaps in a slightly different way, it will work just fine. The main things are this:

    1. It’s fine to bring up controversial ideas or viewpoints, but they need to include ways of (or attempts at, or question about) reconciling those feelings or dealing with them in a constructive manner. That keeps the discussion within the framework of the site mission.

    2. It’s important to be a little more fuzzy and less absolute about labels or accusations against others. For example, calling TBM-like missionaries used car salesman might be accurate sometimes, indeed there are some people like that. But the presentation that all are insincere (implied or explicitly stated) doesn’t leave enough wiggle room for our style of forming conversations. A better format might be to say “Sometimes I think couple missionaries are not the best examples of what it means to proselyte for Mormonism, it has given me a used car salesman feeling.” That is less accusatory and talks to your experience, less about trying to talk about someone else’s experience of Mormonism (the couple missionaries).

Thanks for your understanding. I don’t want you to get the impression anyone is offended. Nobody is, but we do actively moderate the content of our forums and actively work to shape the discussions in the direction of our site goals.

    -Brian
