GuestConnected: The Surprising Power of Our Social Networks and How They Shape Our Lives by James H. Fowler and Nicholas A. Christakis
Since Fowlers is the most referenced author here I was wondering if any of you had read his new book? I am half way through the book. My two cents, I am really enjoying the book. There are pictures in the book that map our connections and degrees of separation from friends of friends. IMO the visual aids are mandatory to understanding his book. I will often purchase an audio book to listen to while driving but in this case I would reccomend the real book so you can flip back and see the visuals that are referenced throughout the book.
The most interesting part was how polarized our political arenas have become. There was a recent article on how Church shopping is polarizing religion as well.
http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2010/05/24/how-church-shopping-is-polarizing-the-country/?hpt=Sbin I also see how much your friends of friends and a Social network really can affect you. The best example was when asked how you met your spouse. Many people shared a mutual friend (like me.)

GuestWow, I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for posting this. July 1, 2010 at 9:59 pm #232982Anonymous
GuestOh well, I’m going a bit too far into politics tonight, but I will say this. I don’t think that polarization has been positive for American politics, as unlike many other countries, there are only two parties and a lot of the politics results in mud slinging rather than real debate and ideological diversity. Same goes for religion. More or less.
Been asking about Fowler’s elsewhere, because I’m not familiar with him at all.
