GuestOkay, it doesn’t deal with deep heavy theological issues (which there is a place for), but in my view, it puts a much more positive, everyday view of church out there that more people will relate to. A lot of the people on this come across as good decent kind human beings, which is exactly how the church should be perceived. It makes a change from our image of being an army of suits.

GuestAnd maybe it will change the reality. Everything affects everything else. Maybe we will become more diverse. July 19, 2010 at 3:19 pm #233437Anonymous
GuestI agree! I love the profiles! I read one profile on that site of a single mother who was into going to punk rock concerts, and who admitted to having trouble with her teenage son. Seemed refreshingly honest. August 7, 2010 at 1:10 am #233438Anonymous
GuestI loved (past tense) Josh Maready’s profile on this, http://mormon.org/me/14DH-eng but his profession of “photographer has been edited off and now it just shows him as a skateboarder. His photography is amazing, such a shame, I love his work. Just seems as though the artistic and individual parameters can be constrained and edited away.

Guesthumanist, I can’t imagine “The Church” editing someone’s profile from “photographer” to “skateboarder”. That would be a bit beyond weird. I assume someone can edit their own profile, but I haven’t tried or talked to anyone about it. August 8, 2010 at 6:52 pm #233440Anonymous

His profile use to say “photographer and skateboarder”
Now it says “Skateboarder” only
I saw Josh’s profile because I did a search under the key word “photographer”
Your right, there are two possible parties that could edit. Did you check out his photography link?

GuestI see the new website is taking something of a bashing here – http://mormonmatters.org/2010/08/09/a-new-church-the-new-mormon-org-campaign/ But surely, this is a good thing in the end.
People are saying that things have not really changed on the inside. Well, I believe that they are, albeit it somewhat slowly. It probably depends on your ward. If you’re in a ward in rural Utah, I imagine the old dies hard, but if you’re in a ward in New York city, Lagos or London, I think things will be different there.
I’m currently in a class taught by a man in a blue shirt AND a beard. That’s a two-ser surely!
Some will see this as cynical marketing, but I also see it as both affecting the intake, and the behavior of current members in the long run.
