Hello. I’ve been disaffected for several years now and needless to say it’s been a tough Journey. Not in the sense that things have gone seriously wrong for me since leaving; That couldn’t be furthest from the truth. It’s been rough due to my conflict with Self and if I’m making the right decision in leaving or damning myself to eternal hell.

Since leaving, I have become a Metaphysical student and am studying to obtain my Doctorate as a Metaphysician and Minister. I attend a Unity church and am quite happy with my decision to be amongst their number. I meditate now and have greater intuitive (holy ghost) occurrences. Or it’s just that I’m learning to recognize the still, small voice and will rejoice in the day my mind is quiet enough to hear it completely (by the way, Unity churches and Metaphysical studies also believe in the still, small voice. The difference is they actually give you practical ways to listen).

Because of my studies in Metaphysics, I have gained a somewhat better understanding of Joseph Smith doctrines and concepts that were otherwise far to out there for me to grasp or understand. Do to this newfound insight, I have contemplated staying LDS. My main concern is how to juggle attending two different churches as I don’t want to give up one for the other. I am also easily led into the feeling guilty syndrome and that I’m lower than dog poo thinking. If I can manage these issues and a few others, I would like to stay with my LDS family and also keep up with my Metaphysical friends and associates I have gained along my journey.

I’m here on the forums for now working out my future with the church. I thank you for all your comments in advance for anything I may post and am grateful to be on this journey with you.

Welcome, I’m not sure what you mean by Metaphysics and what kind of classes you would take for this but it sounds interesting. I vaguely remember the term from philosophy but it seems like it is also used to refer to many “New Age” or spiritual topics. Some of the guilt-trips were one of the biggest problems I had with the LDS Church as well but I don’t think they know any better.

    Welcome Journey,

I’ve enjoyed reading your intro and other posts today. I’m interested to see how things go for you as you navigate the church and other services. It is YOUR journey so I say go for it. Make your spiritual life what you would like it to be.

I suffer greatly from the “I’ll never be good enough” train of thought each time I attend the LDS church. It’s tough. I try to make sure I am well rested, have eaten a healthy meal and I have my kindle or ipod with me, then if the subject turns to “do more, be more, etc” I am physically strong enough to endure and I have a distraction. I hope to one day let everything said slide off me but for now those are my coping mechanisms.

I hope to hear lots from you,

    CANADIANGIRL

    Nice!!

As Brian exemplifies…keeping a bit of a sense of humor when going through your journey can help keep things grounded.

    Welcome to the forum…and journey-a-way!

Your right, this is “your” journey, god gave it to you! You seem like you care a lot about your friends, keep them all, its hard to have too many friends.
