I look for hope in general conference. This past conference one of the speakers (I forgot which) reference a landmark book American Grace – How Religion Divides and Unites Us.

The reference alone to the book was joy, showing that even the top guys read secular books, use them, and reference them. In the past few days I’ve been reading through it. Mormonism is referenced often. One point that seems clear is that our society has not embraced the idea of Mormonism. My hope is that maybe some of the reasons and references will be pondered and considered at the higher level.

I don’t know if it will, but I’ve enjoyed the insights.

When you are done reading it perhaps you could give us a book review.

It’s a worthwhile book. I found some of the “insights” not all that illuminating, but overall, the book gave me a greater appreciation for the diversity of faith expression in the U.S. and how vital religion is in people’s lives.
