😯 I just finished having lunch with a group of friends, 95% members. The subject of Obama/bin Laden came up. One gentleman said that the right couldn’t take credit for it because it was Obama. One lady said she thought Bush was the reason. Well it exploded from there into almost physical violence.
😯 :wtf: :wtf: The lady went on to yell at the Gentleman because he and his ilk were going to take the nation to hell, not only hell but sociolist hell. Another Lady spoke up and said everyone was entitled to their opinion and that we should not be ending friendships due to differences of opinion. First lady said she’d just drink the kool-aid and believe what she wanted and thanked the second lady for letting her share her opinion.Well the table was divided about evenly, between members on either side. However, me the inactive and the one non-member just sat there, dumbfounded. When asked what my opinion was…I said I think I’ll be Catholic, thanks.

I think we lose a tiny piece of our soul when we rejoice and cheer at the violent death of an enemy, even if it had to be done for survival (speaking in generalities, not just Osama Bin Laden). I can’t think of any soldiers I have known that felt anything but profound sadness once the adrenaline wore off. It haunts some for the rest of their life. If people put as much passion into fixing the problems as they did trying to be right, we’d be a lot better off.

Amen – even if this death was not a bad thing, in and of itself.
I remember reading years ago about people who had gathered at a prison in Alabama where a murderer was being put to death by lethal injection at midnight. They threw a massive party to celebrate his death, and all I could think was:

I wish SO much that we as a people could rise above such petty nonsense as my example and the event in this post – at the very least when we gather together as a people.
I’ve always had a problem with this kind of thing. How far and how seriously do we take the teachings of Jesus when it comes to an eye for an eye or love and turning the other cheek. I know that in some cases we may need to defend ourselves. For me it is kind of like the concept of loving your enemy. Am I as likely to share a cup of water with someone like bin Laden as I am, say, my own son? Probably not, and I wish that weren’t the case. I don’t really know where I am going with this other than to just agree with what has already been said about joyous celebration over the death of another living, human being, despite how they were perceived by others. Amen Ray and Brian, I’ve had such mixed feelings on this bin Laden death. One the one hand I know that people with loved ones killed on 9/11 were probably very happy but on the other hand dancing in the streets???? I just keep thinking that we don’t know what bin Laden’s life was like? His childhood? He probably thought what he was doing was the right thing??? Horrible to say, I know. But I cannot rejoice when someone has been killed. Maybe I might feel differently if one of my own was hurt in any way? I don’t know! It’s a sad thing all around!

I will not mourn the lost and death of Bin Laden, but I hate to see people celebrate in the streets because he is dead. It reminds me of footage of Palistinions cheering and burning flags and Bush posters after the Towers went down. Yeah, the Guy was a criminal and needed to be killed, but I don’t feel good about it.
I think this is veering into politics, but it’s worth looking at what the casualty rates in the Afghan War are, on both sides, plus civilians. The figure is sobering – over 70,000 I believe.
