GuestI thought the church put together an interesting video for youth about staying sexually pure, interviewing 6 different youth from 6 different faiths. I suggest watching it and while doing so, see if you can figure out which youth goes with which faith. They give the answer at the end.

How did it make you feel to see a commonality across such different faiths?
How does it make you feel to see the Church putting out a multiple-faith message like this?
(my intention with this thread was about the church website putting together this message from different faiths, not really the content of the message around sexually purity, but the multiple-faith message itself…instead of a “Mormons are peculiar” type message we often hear on Sunday)

I was surprised. I tried to narrow the field through ethnicity, fashion, focus, and word choice – yet I was still surprised.

I suppose I had sometimes felt like the Mormons were the best in the “good, better, best” analogy. Perhaps this was partly derived from the “bring all the good you have, and we’ll see if we can add to it” stance of dear GBH. It is good that this message in the video was so uniform and in no way suggests – “yes, they all made the right choice but the Mormon made the right choice for the better reasons.”

As I was visiting a far away ward, I noticed something peculiar in the YW room. They had paintings of women representing each of the YW values. They had Eve represent choice and accountability etc. What really impressed me were the non-LDS/non-biblical selections. There was Sacajawea representing knowledge as it was her knowledge of 7 dialects and many other things that aided Lewis & Clark on the expedition. Joan of Arc represented individual worth. Through her following of the promptings of the spirit she was able to lead the armies of France. Finally was Florence Nightingale representing good works for her volunteer work in turn of the century hospitals. Fully half of the paintings were of non-LDS/non-biblical selections.Perhaps just as we are pushing to show the outside world that Mormon membership is diverse, there are also inroads being made inside the church to show that we have more that is good and virtuous in common with the “gentile” world than is sometimes assumed.

GuestThat is a great example, roy. I am going to mention it to my daughter and see if we can replicate it in our ward. I really like this. I want Mormonism to remain unique in the ways that I believe are really important, but there is SO much that we share with good people of all faiths.
