We need to keep an eye on gtb7697. I was a bit troubled by the claims in the introduction, and I think Brian picked up on it, as well. It just didn’t ring true in some details to me. I responded at face value at first, but the subsequent citing of Paul in a classic evangelical, cut-and-paste method (that wayfarer addressed) led to my follow-up comment.
I want to see how gtb7697 responds to wayfarer’s and my comments. I’m not saying we have an evangelical in our midst who is masquerading as a disaffected Mormon – or a disaffected Mormon who has misrepresented the reason for disillusionment by leaving out exposure to anti-Mormon literature – but I’m a bit wary and suspicious right now.
At the very least, we might have someone who is highly susceptible to wild, unpredictable swings – and we need to be aware of that possibility.
Yup. My early warning lights all lit up indicating malfunction. Let’s see if we can still help them though. I would like to continue to engage and tease out some more. We are here to help people, and this person has come for help. I think they are sincere, but still trying to evaluate that. Their style of writing and thought pattern come across as a little … not sure how to say it … disconnected or fuzzy. I hate to label it mentally ill because that is too extreme, but sort of along the lines of Lady Wisdom or someone like that. You know what I mean?
This triggered a thought for me – should we consider adding Wayfarer as a moderator? Just a thought. I’m cool either way, but I know the two of you bear the greater burden, and the rest of us just check in and out as we can! Wayfarer would be great, and I’ve thought of Mercy and Grace would be a good female moderator. If we are interested in adding more moderators, that is, without offending any long-time frequenters.
His last comment made it perfectly clear that he’s not a fit at all for us. Any new thoughts? My troll meter is pinging loudly, but I might just be over-sensitive right now. His polygamy comment left me scratching my head, but cwald already asked for clarification (and I asked for a PM), so we’ll see how it goes. As long as someone like this doesn’t get too over the line, it doesstimulate conversation. Just a thought. I agree, Brian – ironically, since I’m the one questioning. I’m not asking for any official action; I just want all of us to be very aware of him – and not be surprised if we have to help put out fires or hear private complaints.
