To spoof off of Ray’s church reports… ;)

Does anyone get together Tues or Wed nights to play basketball in their wards??? I wonder what kind of experiences you have…sometimes I feel I get to see the real side of people when we all try to run after a bouncing ball for no reason other than to try to remember back on the days of our youth when we could actually move with coordination.

I have been pretty faithful playing weekly, usually Tues nights and Saturday mornings. The group in our Stake that plays is a great group of friends and we mostly keep our tempers in tact.

I’ve been traveling for work, and missed my night this week with our ward, but decided to go check out another stake building close by and play with another ward. Holy Cow…these guys were so friendly and invited me in and tried to learn my name, kept passing me the ball and telling me to shoot (not because it was gonna go in, but because they wanted me to feel welcome).

I actually had a spiritual experience of sorts…feeling some friendshipping, and these strangers reminded me how nice Mormons really are. I wondered if sometimes Mormons are nicer from a distance (don’t know them from Adam), rather than up close when I really get to know them (people in my ward). Then I felt guilty for those thoughts, and they reminded me I want to be like them and make others feel welcome and comfortable, even strangers. It may be silly, but it touched me, and I respected these guys and their example I needed.

Not all basketball experiences are like this. Sometimes we see the ugly side. Does anyone else have experiences with basketball (good or bad)?

We have basketballs, but no Basketball. They have held volleyball and soccer games in the ward. The volleyball games were on a Friday night, but would clash with things and were shut down.
