Taking from a tangent from another thread…

It was mentioned that SPG on NOM “believed he has been visited by Moroni on multiple occasions.”

Here’s the thread (with a link to another one):

    http://forum.newordermormon.org/viewtopic.php?t=20720&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

As I suspected, he was referring to the spirit of Moroni as angels as messengers/ancient wisdom, mostly.

And he never actually had any visits, but went to a chaneller (Nonlds) who claimed to be getting a message from someone like a “Moroni.” SPG repeatedly refers to it as possibilities, not fact…

“Of course, I’m always vulnerable to lies and illusions. Validating each peace of information is a challenge. But when I’m talking to a medium and she starts saying, “some angel named, Morni. . . or eh, Morgoff, or eh Moronum, or maybe it’s Moroni (having no clue who Moroni is) I consider it a contact attempt. She then says, “I’m not sure I want to channel this one, he seems sort of dark, heavy, etc.” “

A Jewish friend mentioned how the original meaning of angel was “messenger” & it could be a “good” or “evil” messenger. My guess would be that the messenger depends a lot on our interpretation and subconscious needs. (IE: the story of the angel/messenger in the talking donkey story.)

What do you think about spiritual messengers?

Just checked in and found this thread.

I’m not sure what you are asking or looking for here. I probably will just say hi and leave it at that.

I believe in tapping into something that is out there. I’m not sure anyone knows for sure what that is, but the way to unlock the potential is generally through some kind of story or symbolic mechanism — like angelic messengers, answers to prayers as a fleeting thought, reading patterns in tea leaves, or whatever.

The messages are for real. Do they come from angelic beings or are they from the massively powerful subconscious mind? I don’t know. I’m not sure there’s a clear dividing line there.

    Hi Brian,

Yeah… something out there and in here. They say that we all – the universe & everything in it – are mostly space – & that the mass is largely found in this empty space. What’s amazing is that back 2,300 years ago, Epicurus came up with a non-deterministic atomic theory – which only now is getting serious attention. That and dark energy & matter that make up the mass of & permeate everything are extremely interesting, regarding power/energy that is real but not understood. The subatomic particles (considered to be beyond the 10th dimension) may be part of this. Maybe spiritual messages are determined by both our subconscious (like a radio tuning) and spiritual energies (like radio waves).

I’ve also wondered about how the subconscious relates with spiritual experiences. Maybe the subconscious is the window to not only one’s psychology but also one’s soul & spiritual energy. I know of experiences, especially that involve predicting the future, that seem scientifically unexplainable.

    Your sig says it well:

“It’s strange to be here. The mystery never leaves you alone.”

At one time when I was feeling very alone, my friend said, reconsider the word “alone”: ALL ONE.

Can anyone explain to me how they define “ministering of angels”?

Honestly, Sam, I don’t try to define it – or, really, even understand it deeply. I leave it alone and let it happen however it happens, whatever it is.

According to LDS… “The belief that holders of the Aaronic priesthood can receive help from angels.”

Some people believe in angel guides – one or more angels that look over us throughout our lives. (Often mentioned in NDEs)

I believe that those we love, who have passed on, or are yet to be born… can be our ministering angels at times.

I’ve had beautiful experiences with this, Sam. Most of them, if I really wanted to, I could account for subconscious etc…

EXCEPT for a couple of instances where the future was accurately predicted… & events that happened as predicted were out of the ordinary.

Of course, there are also angels “among us”…

Yeah, it’s a phrase that gets used a lot, but I don’t really get what it means. In one case, I was told that it was that angels did blessings, a la priesthood holders, putting their hands on the head etc, but it doesn’t really sound a whole lot different from human intervention, so it seems a bit pointless.

I’ve had one or two experiences which some people might interpret as angelic, but I don’t think of them in the same way. Odd dreams, feelings of being watched over (in a good way – in a bad way a few times as well) etc. I know, sounds like alien abduction…

On a few occasions, I’ve come out of accidents etc, relatively unscathed, or felt that I should not go somewhere at a particular time.

Once shortly after my father died, I was very upset, and then all of a sudden, I felt an incredible peace, as if he was around and comforting me. You can interpret that as you will.

But nothing with wings, and certainly nothing like Joseph Smith.

Experiences like that can be interpreted different ways, but I think it’s generally most productive to believe in a “higher power.”

I’m sorry about your Father passing on – I imagine that was difficult.

I’ve had experiences similar to this one you had with your father, Sam. I choose to believe that those we love do continue in some type of energy/spirit & that we still have some type of connection at times. This belief has given me comfort & hope, so I see it as a productive belief.

I just came across this book…

    What Children Know About Angels:

“Angels can talk in every language without even moving their lips.”

“If I were an angel, there would be no shouting – – except at ballgames.

And even then you’d have to cheer for both sides.”

“Angels know how to talk, but the trouble is that they only talk opera.” :D

“You can see angels when you’re a really little kid.

Then you think it’s not cool to see them when you get older, so they stop letting you.”

“The only thing that gets in the way of an angel delivering its message is you.

If you keep on talking yourself and don’t listen, you’ll never get it!”

“Sometimes when we close our eyes, angels take us to God to have a little talk.” 🙂

I love those quotes, Featherina. The innocence and imagination of youth are inspiring.

I’d never seen this painting of his before… intriguing.

“Urizen prays before the world he has forged.”

Is he hopeful or in despair?
