GuestWent to see Prometheus recently. It’s a prequel to Alien. Looks good visually (much more interesting than Avatar), but somewhat lacking in some other departments. Plenty of the yucky holdovers from Alien, but some genuinely mysterious stuff in it. Exactly who is the being who stands over the waterfall in the first scene, and why is the spaceship watching him? As in the other films in the series, the artists (mostly based on Giger) have opted for monsters that look a bit too much like human genitalia.
One of the characters (Shaw played by Noomi Rapace) is a Christian though (she wears a cross all the time), which is my excuse for putting this here. She discovers mankind was created by aliens, and they journey to another star system to find out exactly what the reason for this was. Another character seeks mortality. Another is an android – touches of Bladerunner. However, nothing is as it seems (it is a horror film after all), and there are a few surprises. Thankfully the writer did not play up a creationist angle.

GuestI would like to see it, although I don’t know want to think about them making the alien look a little too much like a female’s private part. June 10, 2012 at 4:22 pm #253140Anonymous

Yes, there are a few yuck moments in it, but I suppose it’s a horror. It does raise a few interesting issues, but some folk die along the way, including an alien humanoid and a robot!

GuestIf god really is just an alien race of beings then I hope they are a lot nicer than these guys were. June 10, 2012 at 4:33 pm #253142Anonymous

Kind of… Ridley Scott mentioned the idea that Christ was an alien might be too radical for some people. But the engineers are supposed to have visited 2000 years ago. However, the film is not that critical of Christianity IMHO, no evolution vs creation debates, and the main character wears a cross.

GuestI’m an Alien fan, and looking forward to seeing the prequel. I’ve said many times that the concept of aliens being “gods” and creating and seeding the earth, make sense to me.

GuestI think you’d enjoy it Cwald, but judging by the reviews online, too many people have tried to connect it with the original series. It’s as much a spinoff as a prequel. Too many people saying “Where’s Ripley?” (Actually Ripley would be a baby.) -
