GuestAlthough I grew up along the Wasatch Front, I was not comfortable talking about garments with folks not of our faith. In polite company, underwear was something was not something you either displayed or talked about. How times have changed, or rather how society has decided discussion of someone’s underwear is fair game. With Mit Romney the likely Republican candidate for president, I enjoyed the following article explaining why religious clothing is not unique to Mormons. It’s really quite educational. Others tired of the “magic underwear” jokes will probably enjoy it. Mitt Romney’s Underwear | Bob Lonsberry

GuestThe Sikhs wear special undershorts too. And the Zoroastrians wear an undershirt. July 3, 2012 at 4:57 am #253325Anonymous
GuestI hear Jon Stewart make fun of the Jews every night on the Daily Show. Jon is Jew. Maybe us Mormons need to lighten up and get over the persecution complex?

Freeakin’ A.We wear funny underwear. We think we’re gods. I’m looking for additional wives. Actually, we have an open marriage concept, including wife-swapping. (Ok, that was just Joseph and Emma with the Laws.) It’s all pretty amusing when you get down to it.
Problem is that LDS cannot laugh at these things, because they’re too ‘sacred’. I believe that the church will do a lot better if we can laugh and enjoy the insanity of being human.

GuestAgreed totally. If we lightened up about it, those who focus on it would look like clowns with an axe to grind. July 3, 2012 at 6:55 pm #253328Anonymous
GuestIn my view, it’s not well established that the Smiths and Laws were into wife-swapping. July 3, 2012 at 7:10 pm #253329Anonymous
Guestthey weren’t. there seems to have been some talk about it, and perhaps even a threat by Emma who might have been tired of all the crap going on. Who knows? And you know? It doesn’t matter to me. It’s simply one of the comical aspects, in my impression in church history. July 3, 2012 at 7:22 pm #253330Anonymous
GuestIt may reveal my immature side, but I rather enjoy the South Park episodes that point out some of the silly things about Mormonism (and other religions the same), like missionaries wearing bike helmets, and that whole episode of how happy that mormon family is, even if they are incredibly cheesy and gomer-pyle-ish (…Martin Harris Dum-Dum-Dum-Dum-Dum, Lucy Harris Smart-Smart-Smart-Smart-Smart 😆 )Just gotta laugh at ourselves sometimes. We’re quirky people.
I haven’t heard very many “magic underwear” jokes that are all that funny.
🙄 But I do think it strikes a chord with some folk…as anything temple related is so sacred that it is offensive to talk about. Whatever. -
