Brian/Ray…any idea on the registration background check on this new user?

Before approving the intro post, I wanted to know if we had more info on why they are here, or what other “LDS forum” they moderate.

Seeing Shawn stir things up, I didn’t know if that was inviting other “well intentioned” believers to try to come and preach hell-fire and damnation to the group.

I hope I’m wrong. I’d love to welcome more believers to the conversation and balance things out…make it interesting.

Can you tell us more about their registration comments and background?

Sorry. I approved it and then read this post. That might have been a mistake.

I agree with your concern, given the brevity of the post. Let’s keep a close eye on it.

No worries, nothing yet to be concerned about.

I was just turned off a bit when he said he came here to help others. Let’s just watch that his idea of helping others isn’t converting them to his most righteous views. But I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. If he moderates elsewhere, he probably has a clue on how blogs work.

I’m sick of people saying, “The answer to your problems is to stopping thinking about your problems.” (sorry…I’m grouchy tonight :silent: )

I liked his response in the “Apology for the Ban” thread.

    His registration justification text:

“Saw Washington Post article and I am a current forum moderator at LDS.net; lifelong member and RM.”

If he’s really a moderator at LDS.net, he should have decent forum etiquette, and should be at least somewhat sensitive to the range of issues out there.

Self check…anyone disagree with my approach in response to wayfarer’s post in Skippy’s intro thread?

I don’t want orthodox members to feel they are not welcome. But most, I think, will clash as Shawn did if they start preaching condescendingly. Is it not our role as moderators to help them see “the error of their ways” as much as moderating angry or venting comments that are too negative about the church?

I think we can try to nudge people to the middle more, which means from both sides to the middle, to provide a tolerant and open forum for all ideas. no?

I agree. Shawn probably crossed the line, but I think it is good to be challenged sometimes. That thread seems to be going OK.
