And got three no’s in one day today. I’ve taken a lot of time off work to interview, and Walmart didn’t give me the time of day, Kmart called me and told me not to come in tonight for the interview because they had found someone else, and Rite Aid just flat out said thanks for playing. I’ve never gotten three job rejections in one day ever. I’m so discouraged I could cry. I don’t know why things happened like this but they did. Btw, I don’t know if I mentioned it before, but I’m a pharmacy technician. The only good things I can see coming out of this are that I still have a job, although it isn’t the greatest, and I will be able to attend church every weekend still. I could use prayers and hugs, I’m really disappointed.

Keep working at it…I have a few job search tips.

    1) Keep your eyes peeled for places that are opening up as you drive around — new construction etcetera. Apply there and try to drop in when the manager is there.

    2) Join professional associations where you can network.

    3) Get involved in community groups and so service there — you will meet people who might be able to refer you or hire you. But make an effort to put into the organization’s mission.

    4) Call people who have the power to hire you (not human resources) and ask them for five minutes where you can explain who you are and what you can do to help them. I got two interviews in the same day that way, right when I wanted them, although one manager made me sit and wait for an hour until he finished a meeting.

I found that traditional methods of selling myself weren’t nearly as effective as these.

I’ve had three periods of unemployment in my life. I understand what you are experiencing and hope it ends as soon as possible.

The best “little” piece of advice I can give:

If you are e-mailing a resume to people, send it as close to when you think they will be opening their Inbox as possible – to try to have it be at or near the top of their new messages as possible. (For example, if someone usually gets into the office at 8:00, send it at 7:30-7:45.) If you aren’t sure when the person gets into the office, send it around 6:45am their time. Almost nobody who will be reading it will be in earlier than that, but it’s late enough that not a lot of other messages should be sent between then and when they arrive in the office.

Prayers and hugs kmullin! Have you checked in with your ward and stake employment specialists? Go to ldsjobs.org and sign up, if you haven’t already. Might be something out there. You never know.

Are you trying to stay in your field as pharmacy tech? You meantioned you still have a job. Are you changing for a certain reason? Sorry if I’m asking too many questions.

kmullin, I recently retired after 44 years on the job.

I sat down the other day & made a list of all the jobs I’ve had since 1965.

I’ve worked at 14 companies. (2) companies I work at twice.

At (3) companies I have earned pensions.

It isn’t easy being laid off or having a company go bankrupt.

Or, being under employed where you are bored or under paid.

Now comes the part where I try to cheer you up.

The more interviews you have, the easier they become.

You are going to find a job that is much better then the one you currently have (or had).

You will look back & say, I wish I could of gotten this job earlier.

This process is giving you experience & when you hear a friend say they were fired or lost their job, you will have

empathy for what they’re going through.

    I like SilentDawning’s tips.

    I would add:

    5) Continue to upgrade your job skills.

    6) Join a charity organization & put it on your resume.

    7) Have a positive attitude when talking with prospective employers.

    8) Have someone who knows you well review your resume & cover letter. Ask for suggestions to improve them.

I have had the opportunity to interview & hire Accountants. The process is the same regardless of the job title.

You have to stand out from the other applicants that are applying for the same job.

If you want to discuss it further or want me to review your resume, etc, send me a PM.

I wish you the best in your search. It’s not always easy.

    Mike from Milton.
