I just noticed in Sunday School yesterday, the song Come Unto Jesus gets me a bit choked up. It’s a wonderful song. What songs are are uplifting to you?

Rock and Roll All Night by Kiss always seems to bring tears to my eyes….

Just kidding. For me, In Humility Our Savior used to do it for me. Particularly when I sang it with a companion who had a complementary voice.

I like An Open Cover by Bryce Neubert, Sarah, and Brighter than Day, also by Bryce Neubert. The CHI says that you can use songs in Sacrament Meeting that are contemporary provided they have a hymn-like quality. I would love to hear some of these in our regular meetings. A calling I would like is Ward Music Director; I would revolutionize the Ward’s sacrament meeting without violating the CHI.

SD, I know you meant it as a joke but, there are some R&R songs that do inspire me. I wouldn’t expect to hear them at a

sacrament meeting. For example: Joe Walsh has a new album, Analog Man.

There are (3) songs that related to gratitute & recovery that are very good & bring a tear to my eyes. They are:

    – Wrecking ball.

    – Lucky that way.

    – One day at a time. (The best.)

It is fun & inspiring to hear music from people who have gone through recovery, get the program, live a better life & try to help others

    along the way.

    Mike from Milton.

I like the compliments. Again, Mike, congratulations for getting the church back into your life.

Some beautiful tunes that I hope make it into a new hymnal: “Be Thou My Vision,” “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need,” and “My Song is Love Unknown,” to the tune Rhosymedre. The music scene is sad lately. Pianists and organists who can play well at tempo are rare. We recycle the same twenty-five hymns quarterly, and, as a general rule ward choirs sing a very predictable, bland type of piece. But I have great memories of music in the church.

Speaking of Spinal Tap, SamBee, did you ever see the movie This Is Spinal Tap. I tried watching it, but I couldn’t get into it. Too bizarre for my taste. haha

I drifted away from the LDS church 16 years ago, and last week I found myself humming “The Spirit of God Like a Fire is Burning.” It was my favorite LDS hymn ever. I wondered whether YouTube had a nice version of it, and I came across the following:

It’s really inspiring and brings me to tears sometimes. Whoever made this is very talented indeed. It’s pushed me deep into contemplation about whether it’s time to return to the Church.

This to me is the style of inspiring music. If 1600’s English is the language of scripture, then this must be the voice of worship.
