Back to being Choir Director after a 4 year break (before which I did 21 consecutive years), it was really enjoyable to do this again.

    here was the program:

Hymn 202: O Come, All Ye Faithful – Congregation

Schop: Break Forth O Beauteous Heavenly Light

Praetorius: Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming

    Trad.: Joseph Dearest Joseph Mine

    Durham/Kilpatrick: Away in a Manger

Missionary : Telling of the Christmas Story from Luke 2:1-16, Matthew 2:1-11

Corwall/Trad.: Beautiful Savior – includes congregation

    Titcomb:We Have Seen His Star

    Trad.: Infant Holy, Infant Lowly

    Rutter: Nativity Carol

Rutter/Händel: Joy to the World – includes congregation

    Bishop’s talk

Bock: Peace, Peace / Silent Night

28 minutes of music, 10 minutes of speaking… the right ratio. We had 23 in the choir, good balance, over 400 in the congregation, just 2 minutes over scheduled time for the meeting.

Really a great spirit. Such a refreshing break from internet discussions elsewhere that do nothing for me but degrade the spirit. I think it really important this time of year, to focus on the message of peace, good will, and love. It transforms my attitude when I focus on that.

I like your ratio of music to talks too.

Music is always the best sermon. In my opinion.

We had two talks, a song by the primary children, three piano solos by teenagers, a piano duet by a mother and son, and a piano/flute duet by that mother and her daughter.

    It was wonderful.

    Church was canceled…snow.

BP called me a week ago and asked me to speak. It would have been a good universal Christmas message…maybe next year.

We had a presentation of mostly music with some narration thrown in. It was great! The choir director had obviously gone to a lot of effort to put it together. Hats off to her for thinking outside the box a little.

The program had a few congregational hymns, quite a few numbers by the choir, a song by the primary, a duet (English/Spanish song) by two sisters who both did their missions in Spain, a song by a women’s ensemble and a solo by a ten your old kid who hit it out of the park. She also had two very talented young men accompany a bunch of the songs on the violin and cello. It was one of the best Sacrament Meetings I have ever attended.

I didn’t even mind that it ran almost 1/2 hour long.
