A Special Conference will be held in Kirtland Ohio, April 27, 2013. The conference will utilize the Kirtland Temple itself for one of the sessions. It is not directly connected to the Mormon Stories Conference being held in Kirtland the same weekend. It’s basically a “Midwest Mormons” conference with the them “Mormons in the Middle” representing LDS in the midwest location geographically as well as the fact that many members find themselves “in the middle” of many amazing events going on in our church that have been in some cases incredibly faith promoting and in other cases very challenging.

    Speakers I am aware of

    – Jan Shipps

    – Kevin Kloosterman

    – I have been invited to speak as well <---- bottom of the barrel, sorry ahead of time

Is this a ticketed event or can people just show up? Also are you going to make a recording and put it on a podcast?

From what I have heard it will be around $40.00. If they permit me to record it or let me have a copy?, then yes.

Congratulations on your invite DB. You are not the bottom of the barrel. You and Kevin have given your callings a brightness that you may never know. Your words and example will be and are a big help to entire families. I wish I could attend. It sounds like an awesome weekend.

I too am familiar with Kevin. I heard his talk at the MS conference and I have spoken to him once by email. I agree completely with your assesment.

I thought about going, but after a few events where the in-person experience was not positive for me, I’ve decided not to go. It’s probably just me.

    Wish you well.

Sunstone Kirtland new dates: April 26-28, 2013

We’re thrilled to announce we are returning to Kirtland for another regional conference!

Sunstone has joined forces with the local Mormons in the Midwest group to co-plan this conference focused on the theme, “Mormons in the Middle,” a nod to both Midwest geography and the position Mormons outside the Intermountain West often find themselves in.

    The schedule will include:

A Friday evening keynote speaker and potluck

    Saturday morning concurrent sessions/panels

    Kirtland Temple tours

Saturday afternoon workshops featuring Natasha Helfer Parker and Jennifer Finlayson Fife

Saturday evening keynotes in the Kirtland Temple featuring Bishop Kevin Kloosterman, Bishop Reel, and local Kirtland historian Karl Ricks Anderson

Sunday morning services at local congregations (to be announced) and additional Kirtland Temple tours

We will be posting a more complete Kirtland schedule and registration information soon!

I’m all set to go, flight tickets are paid! Now just figuring out a great vacation to surround the very exciting conference. I’ve never heard Jan Shipps speak, and listening to Bishop Kloosterman is going to be great. I remember a MS conference not to long ago where he spoke on the LGBT’s and how he was saddened that the church hadn’t done a good enough job of including them in our church the way they should be. And he felt that he hadn’t done enough or had a mindset at one time that he wasn’t proud of. I listened to the Youtube of it. I’m also looking forward to your talk too DBMormon! ETA: DBMormon is there a more detailed schedule yet. Like is there a speaker or speakers on Fri. night too?

If I get an update I will notify you and everyone else. I have heard another prominent speaker mentioned but until it is clear he is 100% speaking, I will not drop names. I also am unaware of specific times.
