GuestIf both Men and Women are created in the image of God, is God transgender? No gender? Post-Gender? Seems rather confusing to think all these beautiful women were modeled after a muscular older guy with a gray beard. If God has a wife, wouldn’t the Women be modeled after her, and not God? Considering the various races and pre-homo-sapien primates, was God an ape? Sorry if this seems blasphemous, that is not my intent, just trying to figure out how so much diversity springs out of our traditional image of a male, white God.

GuestImage is pretty general IMO, like all people have similar features. When humans have offspring, the offspring look like the parents and not like a horse. I think I’m good with being made in God’s image. February 15, 2013 at 1:03 pm #265434Anonymous
GuestMan was made in God’s image, and in a curious reversal of events, woman made from man. So the story goes. Hermaphroditic or androgynous would be the term. Transgender implies an operation. God is described as a mother hen at least tice in the scriptures.
Image suggests intelligence, conscience and the ability for non-instinctive creation to me. Few, if any, animals have this.

GuestQuote:“Historically, the claim of consensus has been
the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to
avoid debate by claiming that the matter is
already settled. Whenever you hear the consensus of scientists agrees on something
or other, reach for your wallet, because you’re
being had….There is no such thing as
consensus science. If it’s consensus, it isn’t
science. If it’s science, it isn’t consensus.
Period.” – Michael Crichton

GuestI believe the scriptures as far as they are translated correctly. Image can have a lot of variation. Do the images Picasso painted look like the subjects?
How were we created? A sudden event like Genesis portrays or a more gradually through evolution?
Remember the Bible is mostly an oral tradition that was eventually written. Did God create humans or did the gods create humans?

GuestI like the addition of Heavenly Mother and the adoption of the term “Elohim” (gods) in Mormon theology to address that question, but I’m not married to the idea that we look like God. I think it’s cool, and I accept it theologically, but it doesn’t have to be literal for me. Going back to the “Elohim” concept, it’s interesting that we use a name that means Gods as the personal name of “God, the Father”. I see that as in line with “Elias”, “Adam”, “Eve”, “Lord” and other terms as signifying titles and/or conditions rather than individual names.

GuestIf you want to get really mind-blowing, think of an image of a person drawn on a sheet of paper. It could have all the visual details of the actual person, arms, legs, face, etc., and appear to have depth. It is however, only 2-dimensional (it’s drawn on a flat piece of paper with only the X and Y axis). Now, take that concept one step further. We could be living 3 dimensional representations of a 4 dimensional being (mind blown!). My point is, basically, that this is one of those topics I refuse to say I really understand. If there is a God that I believe in, He/She is a God that could guide me toward a perfect understanding of love, kindness, caring, and happiness.
