I was listening to a wonderful BBC program on the radio yesterday and heard a wonderful quote that is attributed to the Prophet Mohammed: “Wisdom is the lost property of the believer. So let them take it wherever they find it.” I absolutely loved that quote. I hope I’m open-minded enough to take and hold wisdom no matter where I find it.

He agrees with Joseph Smith on that point, and it’s one reason I can accept him as a prophet to his people in his time.

It is a great teaching. I wish the Mormon church would acknowledge it openly more often.

When is something not wisdom though?

Evil often presents itself as good, or flatters us, and is more effective when it does so.

Not all wisdom is comfortable, pleasant or edifying (contrary to our church). Not all falsehoods are disagreeable, unpleasant or make one miserable.

Cwald, I think the Church has a little bit of bi-polar disorder on this. There are great quotes and messages from JS, GBH, Oaks, Holland and Uchtdorf that make essentially the same point. When Mormons hear that message, it makes us feel all warm, fuzzy and ecumenical. On the other hand, if we invite our neighbours to Church on Sunday and they politely decline, indicating that they’ve got their own Church that suits them and leads them to live a moral life, we sadly shake our head at their lost opportunity for the saving ordinances.

Of course I’m over-generalizing here, but only to make a point. It’s been said often and I think it’s very likely to be true: when the earth is rolled up like a scroll and Christ stands among the Church of the Firstborn, I think there are going to be a whole butt-load of Mormons very surprised to be standing there with their Catholic, Baptist, non-denominational and apostate friends. And on the converse, there will be Mormons on the left hand being shoo’ed off stage saying “hey, how come that Catholic made it and I didn’t! I paid 10.74%!!” 😆

:P Hey! My tithing goes up to 11%…

Yes we’ll be surprised who is and isn’t there.

I think God knows our inner life and is no respecter of white shirts. He knows our sins – all of them, but because he knows EVERYONE’S weaknesses, he sees the bigger picture and cuts us slack.

I’ve believed for a long time that the Celestial Kingdom will have, by far, the most people – since I believe eternity is a LONG time to get things worked out.

My boss was an Area Authority many years ago. He once was asked in a fireside w/ one of the Q12 in attendance who he thought would go to the Telestial kingdom. His answer: “murderers, adulterers and a lot of surprised Mormons!” 😆 😆
