I just wanted to thank you Bill (“DB”) for your insights into the “True and Living Church.” I’m not sure where I read your ideas on that, but they helped me today.

I’m in YW. Today one of the other leaders was giving the lesson, on following the Prophet. The whole lesson was the “14 Fundamentals.” I was getting more and more frustrated as the lesson went on. But I wanted to support and not undermine my friend and fellow teacher. (Not to mention a member of the bishopric was present. I can’t be too much of a heretic unless I want to get hauled into the Bishop’s office.). 😮). So I was biting my tongue and stressing inside.

They got to how the prophet will “never lead the church astray” and I couldn’t take it. I thought “they’re setting these girls up” for a faith crash later. In the past I would have either said something I shouldn’t, or had to excuse myself from the room.

I remembered your words though, about the church being true because it is “living,” and not because all beliefs taught are perfectly true all the time. I was able to speak up without doing too much damage (I think).

I didn’t have to contradict the teacher, but could say something like “No one’s perfect, and everyone can make mistakes. We’re the ‘True and Living’ church because we believe in continued revelation. So even if we screw up, we don’t have to REMAIN astray or confused.” Everyone nodded, and no one batted an eye.

I felt good about having been able to state what I think but in a faithful framework. So I wanted to thank you for that.

I want to thank EVERYONE here for giving me tools to help me StayLDS. I appreciate it tremendously.

You’re welcome. Everybody deals with a faith crisis in their own life. Elder Uchtdorf has given some excellent advice on members dealing with a faith crisis.

That particular talk was written when ETB was in the Q12, not when he was church president, and then Pres. Kimball did not like it. According to his biography, he felt the talk was far too conservative in its views and held the leaders up to a standard they couldn’t meet. But as is always the case, there was no public retraction.

The 14 F’s of the prophet, represents the worst of the worst when it comes to religion. It is a false teachings, and the most cult like doctrine taught in modern religions. Unfortunately, the Mormon church is not exempt from such cultish influences.

And I won’t even put “IMO” on this post.:-)

Btw thankful, the 14 F’s, and GC October 2010, was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me.

Cwald, I can see why that would be a last straw. I simply can’t find a way to feel ok with that talk. 😮(

I AM finding ways to be ok at church in general, and that’s a good thing for me. Thanks again all.
