GuestIn a Church News article, the Church Historian said that the Council of Fifty minutes will be used for reference and footnote purposes in the Joseph Smith Papers project, and then will be published separately, in full, as a stand-alone volume. This is HUGE for historians. Many people have believed those minutes would never be published. Using them as described above and then publishing them is a major move for the Church, and it ought to be recognized and celebrated.
For more information, you can read the following:
Church News –
http://www.ldschurchnews.com/articles/63917/Newest-volume-published-for-the-Joseph-Smith-Papers-Project.html To me, the money quotes are:
Quote:Regarding other plans in the Joseph Smith Papers Project, Elder Snow said a few days prior to this recent announcement that the First Presidency “has approved the Church History Department staff to use the Council of Fifty minutes as reference and footnote material in upcoming Joseph Smith Papers books and to eventually publish the minutes in full as a separate volume.”
Quote:“We have not withheld any documents for this series,” Brother Turley said. “There may be an odd document or two of which we are not aware. But all of the thousands of documents that we have found relating to the life and work of Joseph Smith will eventually be included.”

GuestYes. This is progress. I doubt this approach will stop the bleeding of Gen X…or even Gen Y. But it may, and I hope it does, make a difference for Gen Z – the millennials.

GuestI also am looking forward to this series. I doubt I will read them word for word, or maybe not at all. But the idea that the stuff is out there and available for anyone to look at is promising. I really think the church would do itself a favor by cleaning out the closet, so to speak. If it’s out there in the open, the antis can’t say the church hides it for one thing. -
