GuestAdmittedly I did not search this out on my own – I tend not to search for church related stuff because much of what is encountered is anti and some of the rest I’m also not comfortable with (I won’t elaborate further). However, I trust most of you and trust that you visit sites that I may be comfortable with. So where are the good relatively safe discussions in the bloggernacle? I am, of course, especially interested in good discussions regarding Pres. Uchtdorf’s address in yesterday’s session, but I’m not limiting it to that. October 6, 2013 at 5:25 pm #274884Anonymous
GuestJwald is sold on feminist Mormon housewives. It’s not anti…in some opinions.

GuestThis is the only place I know of. I tried MormonDiscussions.com. They are extremely intelligent, and there is a Celestial, Terrestrial and Telestial discussion forum depending on how raunchy you want to get (last time I checked). The people there can be absolutely hilarious in their sardonic wit and sarcasm. They are not judgmental of unorthodox opinions, although there is some sparring that puts you in the trenches a bit, and there is more negativity there than at StaylDS. There is LDS.net but it is for orthodox members of the church. I prefer this site to all others because it has a productive tone and a healthy spate of intellectuals and other fringe types like myself, as well as a strong commitment to professionalism and relationships, in spite of the anonyminity the internet affords. You can be philosophical, think outside the box, and still find people who accept you.
I would start your discussion here.

GuestI like FMH – sometimes. It can get really negative in some threads, but it generally is a good example of struggling members who want to stay. BCC is very good, generally, for a positive approach to lots of topics but realistic concerns.
Wheat & Tares can be very good.
I don’t read and participate nearly as much as I used to, since I spend more time here than anywhere else.
There are three sites linked on my blog that highlight lots of Mormon-themed blogs. I would suggest looking at them and searching for blogs that appeal to you.

GuestI’m sorry, Ray, I don’t know what FMH or BCC stand for. LDS.net is out, I’ve been banned (they could certainly heed Pres. Uchtdorf) and I already looked, there’s no discussion there. I’ll check out mormondiscussions and the blogs, thanks. October 6, 2013 at 8:01 pm #274888Anonymous

DarkJedi, if your goal is to staylds, and remain active in the church, PLEASE don’t go to MD.
I love the site, and many of the people, warfarer and hang out there…but it is more for entertainment value and absolute blunt and honest talk, black and white…, there is very little faith promoting discussion. Mental gymnastics will not work at that board.
Have you tried NOM? New Order Mormon….Most of this crowd also participates there. It mission is to find a middle way…but much more edgy than staylds

Much more edgy for sure. There is quite a mix there. Some are pretty middle of the road and trying to find a middle way. Some are on their way out or are already gone. Some come across as pretty anti.
Discussions are good and you can find a place there.

GuestAre you talking about NOM Thoreau? I have looked there before, and while I do consider myself somewhat new order, I find it a bit more negative than I like – I could have written what you said word-for-word in reference to the site. Those of you who love the site, please don’t take offense, this is a personal preference based on personal sensitivities and is not meant to reflect upon any individuals there or here. Well, if that is the case…you are wasting your time going to MD.

You’re right, MD isn’t my kind of place, either.

GuestIn more or less the order in which I visit them frequently: StayLDS
By Common Consent
Mormon Stories
lds.org
New Order Mormon – a lot of shooting from the hip, but some very good discussions, too
Wheat and Tares
Mormon Matters
Feminist Mormon Housewives
A Thoughtful Faith
Mormondiscussion.podbean….(DBMormon’s site)
Mormon Discussion
s– often just to catch some really witty writing, but a lot of it seems to be ongoing grudge matches October 7, 2013 at 1:13 am #274896Anonymous
GuestYes, I was talking about New Order Mormon. It seems to swing from helpful and supporting of those trying to stay and find a middle way to why do you even want to stay.

GuestI also really like Segullah. Tracy M’s blog, Dandelion Mama, has some wonderful insights sometimes, as well – and she is a fantastic writer.
