My daughter completed a scripture reading exercise over the summer, has read the Book of Mormon. Done her YW’s personal progress….

Although we don’t attend the Ward we live in, the new Ward (the illegal one, cuz we dont’ live there), has welcomed her with open arms. They gave her a certificate for reading the BoM over the summer. There will be recognition and issuance of her YW Medallion in the new Ward as well — even though we have no records there.

I find that is positive. I know that if it was some kind of adult award, we would be sent back to our home ward. At least the church is supportive of youth, and youth welfare appears to transcend geographical boundary rules.

I don’t know why I missed this when it was first posted. Good for your daughter and good for the ward for recognizing her accomplishment.

I understand why there are ward boundaries, and I understand why the church wants people to attend the ward in which they live – it just makes logistic sense, especially with programs like home teaching. I also understand that sometimes this doesn’t work for individuals, and I attended a ward that I didn’t live in for a time (“legally”). I think there can be a happy medium and for the life of me I don’t know why this needs any more than local approval.

I’m really glad to read it, friend.
