Let me start by saying that for the most part I like my Bishop. I think he is one of those guys that is really just trying to do his best in the circumstances he faces as a local leader. But on with my story.

So today after Priesthood opening exercises I followed my usual routine and went to find a comfy chair in one of the foyers to avoid attending EQ. I do this to avoid the inevitable spirit of contention that I would bring to the lessons (let’s just say that I disagree with 90% of what is discussed each week), so I figure it’s best for all. Anyway, about 30 minutes later my Bishop happens to walk by and I stop him to discuss a concern I had with one aspect of my calling that I was uncomfortable with. He says, “I can respect that you don’t want to do that, so I can always assign that specific task to someone else.”

Just as he is about to get up to leave, he turns and asks “Why aren’t you in Elder’s Quorum?”. To which I respond “Because I don’t really get along with anyone who is in there and I never feel comfortable.” His response caught me off guard. “Why don’t you just go to High Priests?” I said that no one had ever given me that option before but I would consider it. He said I was getting to an age where I might have more in common with that group. I am almost 40 after all. 🙄

As he stands up and begins to walk away he turned and said “I’ll let the HP group leader know that you might be coming next week … but you don’t have to go if you chose not to. I know I can’t really make you do anything.”

In my mind I thought, “Yes Bishop (although I always call him by his first name, I don’t do honorifics), you’re finally starting to understand me.” 🙂

That sounds like heaven. I have had good bishops before, how I miss them.

He does sound like a good guy so support him when you can. Count yourself lucky.
