Guesthttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaMVKnpsDA8http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaMVKnpsDA8” class=”bbcode_url”> This could probably go in the book and media section, but it’s important enough to me that I wanted to put it here where I felt like more people might see it. If you have not been introduced to him, I hope he can be as impactful to some of you as he has been to me.
There are so many things I love about Father Rohr’s perspective and honesty that I wouldn’t know where to begin. If I must be perfectly honest, I wish we had a Richard Rohr in the Q12 or above.
A few things he touches on in this talk:
- – American culture is
aculture, not necessarily the idealculture. – Admission that Descartes was correct in his observation of the western person…we really do think we are our thoughts.
– The ego uses words to get what it wants or to argue and prove itself right.
– 24:55 – Silence is a kind of wholeness of being. [My own connection here: Tolle says in the
A New Earth“The New Testament’s “ Be ye perfect” is a mistranslation of the original Greek word, which means whole. This is to say, you don’t need to become whole, but bewho you already are…”] – Faith and silence are practicing for death.
– Observation of the all-too-frequent duality in religion: My denomination has it and your denomination doesn’t.
– It’s not about winning anymore, it’s about being.
– “Even charity can be prostituted.” [Man, a resounding “Amen!” to this!]

GuestAs an example of his voice of peace and reason, so many Christians want to just bash Eckhart Tolle, but I love Rohr’s comments: http://www.eckharttolle.com/article/Spirituality-And-The-Christian-Tradition ” class=”bbcode_url”> http://www.eckharttolle.com/article/Spirituality-And-The-Christian-Tradition Here is an example of the types of fearful Christian critiques that contrast Rohr, if you’re interested:

I definitely agree that Elder Uchtdorf walks a similar path, though I guess I would say sometimes it seems his hands are tied.
