A good friend of mine referred me to someone connected to LDS Philanthropies. I just finished an introductory conversation with that person, who then told my friend that he would see what he could do to find a position that would be appropriate for me. If that happens, I will be moving to Utah and working on charitable giving in some way.

I have some mixed emotions about living in Utah, but I am excited about the possibility of working in that type of job – especially if I can end up working on educational opportunities for under-privileged students around the world. That would be my dream job.

Anyway, any prayers, thoughts, cosmic energy, etc. would be appreciated.

    Ray,

I’m hoping good things come your way for you and your family. You deserve it.

This dream job really sounds cool…and something you could flourish in!

    Keep us updated.

Sounds like it could be a great opportunity! But I wish you could move into my ward …and maybe be bishop or something.

I have two strong backers now, and the HR Director told me that I am on her “must hire” short list. I hope to know something solid within a month or less.

In many ways, this would be an ideal job. If it happens, I will share some more of the background with everyone.

I drove in for the interview on Monday night and had the distinct feeling,

    Quote:

“You don’t need the GPS; you’re home.”

I didn’t expect that, nor did I expect the flood of good memories that hit throughout the week.

Ray, I’ve been really busy the past month or two and didn’t see this post until now. Let me know what happens. I’d love to get together some time. It was cool to get together with hawk over Thanksgiving.

If you get the job, would you live in SLC?

    I’d love that!

LDS Philanthropies is based in Provo, on University Ave just south of the BYU football stadium, since what they do also includes fundraising for BYU (including scholarships, which is where I would love to end up – or with the Perpetual Education Fund). South Orem would make the most sense geographically, but my mother-in-law wants to try living independently in American Fork, at least for a while, so my wife would love to live near her. If I get an offer, I think we probably will end up in AF.

I live in Lehi, and my in laws live in AF. It would be nice to have an unorthodox Mormon in the county! Sometimes I feel very alone. Of course I am at byu quite a bit for ESPN too.

The job with LDS Philanthropies was posted yesterday, so I have applied officially now. The posting will be taken down on the 10th, since the HR Director wants to be able to make offers (multiple openings) ASAP to those she has interviewed already.

If all goes well, I might be starting around Feb. 1st. I would move alone until the end of the school year, and my family would join me at the beginning of the summer.

I’ll let everyone know what happens as it unfolds.

I just completed the leadership assessment given to all people applying for positions with the Church and hope to have a final interview next week. I have been thinking about this, and I have a question for everyone that relates specifically to the position for which I am applying.

The job is a Donor Liaison – meaning I would be working with potential and existing donors to the Church, most likely starting with a department at BYU. Given the views of many of the high-level donors, it might be better if my involvement here is not as open as it has been up until now. I’ve been thinking of changing my username in order to make it harder for someone to read my comments and shy away from working with me as someone who is asking for large donations. I don’t like doing that, but I am a pragmatist – and I wouldn’t want my views to influence my ability to perform the job for reasons I can control. I would change from the name I use in the real world to my first name only (“Curtis”) – and I am feeling like I should do it quickly rather than waiting for the interview. I don’t want you to be too surprised when you see the change.

It would be pretty obvious to everyone if my username suddenly changed, but I can explain that without mentioning the specifics of my new job.

What do all of you think?

Just catching up on some old posts. I was wondering who Curtis was…. IT looks like the change was no big deal.

Yeah, and I am considering going back to the name I’ve used since we started this journey. I didn’t get the job offer, so the issue has disappeared.

I think I will wait a while, until I get a new job – and to avoid giving everyone whiplash. :P
