A friend of mine just posted the following, in response to a hardcore member who wrote a really stupid comment at another site:

    Quote:

    Dear ___________,

    1. I was recently called as a High Councilman in my stake. (Yes, me. Really).

    2. In my new calling, I have been specifically tasked by my Stake President with LGBT Outreach. I am to focus on helping make my stake a friendlier, welcoming and safer environment for Mormon gays and lesbians.

    3. I am giving a high councilman’s talk this Sunday, in a ward that happens to geographically encompass Seattle’s gayest neighborhood. My talk will focus on (1) Jesus of Nazareth; and (2) how to navigate and deal with doctrinal disagreements in our Zion community.

Just thought you’d like to know.

    Things, they are a changing.

Agreed, another small step in the right direction.

    That’s cool :)

This is one of those things that I see as a “grass roots” change. I think the general membership were ready for the black P’hood change far earlier than the top leadership were. I anticipate the same happening with the LGBT question.

I agree that things are changing. Sometimes it seems like at a slow pace but when they talk about hastening the work, it makes me wonder if it is referring to the changes the church will have to make more than the second coming.
