GuestI’m interested in buying the most recent edition of the HC Study Bible to help in lesson prep/personal study. I am told it has the most recent scholarship and resources, but is also hard to read d/t small font and narrow margins. I won’t have a chance to browse through one before purchasing so I wondered if anybody had input they could share. Side note: I recently listened to 3/5 parts of Jared Andersen’s “Scholarly approach to the NT” on Mormon Stories podcast, and it is excellent. I couldn’t believe the world I was being immersed into and how different it was from my previous understanding of the bible. I truly believe that if more people could accept the bible from a more reasonable point of view, the world would be a better place. Religiously speaking.

GuestI don’t have any input on the HC Study Bible, but one of the best things that ever happened to me, scripturally, was taking some divinity school classes, seeing how other people studied and viewed the Bible (multiple, radically different approaches) and reading some fascinating books that were assigned for the classes. GuestYou’ll probably like it. I went the other direction and bought the New Oxford Annotated Study Bible, and it is excellent. The HCSB and the NOASB are both good choices (and both use the NRSV and include the Deuterocanon). January 6, 2014 at 5:36 pm #278016Anonymous
GuestJust got the HC study bible and I love it. Inexpensive too, considering the content and size. I was surprised that it didn’t have an index though. Do you happen to know why that is? January 6, 2014 at 8:46 pm #278017Anonymous
GuestPersonally I find these study Bibles too cluttered. I think it is better getting commentaries or parallel text ones (woth Romanization if possible)

I loved these interviews. My memory’s so bad that I can listen again and have it be like the first time. There are some really interesting exchanges of opinions in the comments, too.
