Guestmany of you have probably seen a couple of my recent post so I figured I would introduce myself.I live in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California and have live in this area for roughly the last for 5 years but grew up near by in the Central Valley for the last 25 plus years.I live in a relatively small town for the area in the East Bay. I am sure that many wonder why individuals decide to become part of this site. I wouldn’t consider myself someone who questions to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, however I question how the LDS Church as an organization has chosen to apply the gospel at times. I really became interested in the site when I saw a few of the Mormon stories videos specifically the one dealing with why members who have been faithful begin to question. I felt that much of the discussion was spot on! I figured that dialoguing with other like minded people could benefit all of us.I also feel that the church has failed to correctly and proactively deal with it is exponential growth. This is not the 1 million number church of the 19 seventies when there was little intellectual disagreement among the membership. it is now a worldwide Church full of people from different cultures with a totally different perspectives learning loving
and following the same identical gospel.
I almost feel that this church needs a mini Reformation. we can all have different thoughts feelings beliefs etc and all still be faithful followers of the restored gospel of jesus christ. going to church however it does not seem that this is a reality in many wards. so I am here like the rest of you totally wanting to discuss these types of issues.

Welcome. I just “jumped-in” here myself after lurking for a few months. The folks here have lots of great insights and perspectives — I’m sure you’ll also add alot to the discussion.

GuestWelcome, and another +1 for the reformation idea. I totally agree that the church fails in some aspects of the gospel by adding too much. The gospel is simple and doesn’t include things like wearing white shirts. January 16, 2014 at 1:31 pm #278998Anonymous

As I understand it that is how the church started out. It would be a blessing to go back to that.
Welcome.

Yes, Please! The Reformation the Church needs is pretty simple, and would reflect the Reformation of the 1500/1600s. Get back to basics about what we really believe and shed the other stuff. On any given Sunday, I’m just as likely to hear about the Word of Wisdom as I am to hear about how the Atonement can bring me closer to godliness. I am just as likely to hear about food storage as any quote from the NT epistles.January 16, 2014 at 11:34 pm #279000Anonymous
GuestHi, pdiggity – Glad you’re here. I would like to go back to the basics. Sometimes I can’t believe how much of my time at church and my own thoughts are obsessed with Joseph Smith. He’s become such a flashpoint and there are days I just want out of it all. I stand back and look at it, and just think, “Something’s wrong here.” It seems like a simplistic testimony of JS is required to feel at home in the church. So people leave because if they have a testimony of him at all, it’s going to be complicated, and talking about it is not acceptable in our Sunday culture. -
