GuestI couldn’t decide where to post this – General Discussion or Here. I think Joseph Smith would have liked this. January 25, 2014 at 6:54 am #279407Anonymous
GuestThank you. I’ll be sharing this with my LDS Facebook friends. I especially liked this:
Quote:
Our tradition asks the question based on this interaction: “Who is wise?” The answer, “One who learns from ALL people” (Pirkei Avot 4:1).I believe a common misconception that many religious people hold is thinking that wisdom can only be found in their own tradition. Jews read the writings of other Jews, Christians read the writings of other Christians, Buddhists read the writings of other Buddhists. In fact, sometimes within a faith, people limit their study to those who agree with them. Orthodox Jews and liberal Jews often do not read each other’s teachings; evangelical Christians and liberal Christians feel they have nothing to teach one another. When we limit our reading to our own, we are closing our minds.

GuestWell, I don’t think that’s a charge that can be laid at me personally. I have read widely amongst other sects and religions even Zoroastrians, ISKCON, Watchtower and Scientology. Sometimes wisdom crops up in the strangest places – some of it is lies and falsehoods. (There is no way that the Vatican planned the annihilation of JWs in concentration camps for example.) It’s like the best bands. Nirvana for example – didn’t just listen to punk and metal, Kurt Cobain loved the Beatles. Some of the best classical composers loved folk music.

GuestI also really liked this article when I read it. She was channeling Joseph at his best in what she said. -
