GuestFascinating article today on how at least three of the church presidents have had African ancestry.
This is an old tradition perhaps – Moses’ name means the Egyptian and he was born in Africa.
* Brigham Young – it is believed he may have descended now from an escaped mulatto slave in the Carolinas, Mary Snoop who migrated north. Knowledge of Mary was kept secret and she could pass for white.
* Wilford Woodruff – related to Africanus Septimus, a servant to the powerful Howard dynasty of Yorkshire, one of the major aristocratic familes of England.
* Gordon B. Hinckley – his distinctive African looks may be no
coincidence. His X chromosome appears to link into the Dogon tribe of
west Africa.
I suspect this is the tip of the iceberg.

GuestThe link seems to be broken. I’ll try and look it up again. April 1, 2014 at 7:39 pm #282959Anonymous
GuestThat would be fantastic to get concrete evidence. It would show the complete nonsense of the ban based on ancestry. April 2, 2014 at 12:13 pm #282960Anonymous
GuestYes, I’m afraid this is an April fool. However, the idea is not completely bogus. Many people have hidden their black, or native American/Australian etc whatever ancestry.
There is good reason to think Beethoven probably had black ancestry. Alexandre Dumas, author of the Three Musketeers certainly did. Pushkin, the founder of modern Russian literature did. Peter Ustinov, the actor was related to Pushkin. Many royal families of Europe, including that of the UK have African ancestry in the remote past (well over a thousand years ago at least). Queen Elizabeth II is related to Mohammed.
There is good reason to suspect that Abraham Lincoln had negro ancestry, and he was nicknamed Africanus –
I’m sure some of our Mormon “nobility” almost certainly has some African ancestry somewhere.

GuestIt is my understanding that we all have African ancestry. At least according to the DNA ancestry documentary on netflix. Plus the garden of was near Ethiopia, according to Genesis. Still confused about Missouri, unless of course that’s symbolic too. April 2, 2014 at 10:54 pm #282962Anonymous
GuestRemote African ancestry yes… I suspect anyone who comes from Mediterranean basin has more recent ancestry. The Portuguese, Spanish, southern French and southern Italians all have some more recent African input. April 3, 2014 at 10:52 am #282963Anonymous
GuestHahaha… got me

GuestI think something like this will turn up eventually. There were priests of negro descent during the ban, for sure, a question of how many and how high up. Even during apartheid many “whites” had black ancestry including FW de Klerk, the last apartheid leader, some have sickle cell, a native African disorder. So South Africa almost certainly has regional leaders of black descent during the pre-1978.
(Totally agree with your personal sentiments on ban MacKay – should never have happened. Church should apologize.)
