GuestThis may be an old joke but it was told to me as if it was true. It just seems like one of those stories that later makes the rounds on social media. Has anybody heard it before? A friend said he was in a temple recommend interview and as it progressed, the question came “Do you associate with any apostates or people that are not friendly to the gospel?” My friend said, “Yes, I attend High Priests group every week.” My friend went on to say the bishop looked angrily at him and said, “I don’t think that is funny.” My friend said, “Neither do I.”

GuestIf I was in a humorous mood, I might answer that I have lots of friends (and some extended family through marriage) who are not friendly to the LDS Church – especially since I’ve lived in the greater Boston area and in the Deep South. I also might add that I have quite a few friends whose extremely conservative political stances and racial bigotry are in opposition to many of the Church’s latest statements.
Generally, I just say, “No,” and let it ride.

GuestI like it! But I wouldn’t say it as its inflammatory. If the day ever comes that I really don’t care about my church membership, and get hauled in and asked these questions, I might respond that way. June 23, 2014 at 2:35 pm #286714Anonymous
GuestAlmost every time we get to that question in the interview we (the interviewer and I) reflect back at the several changes to the wording over the years and chuckle. We both know the intent of the question and it’s never hard to answer “No”. August 26, 2014 at 1:51 am #286715Anonymous
GuestA lady is in the bishop’s office discussing her infrequent attendance to church Sure, I don’t go to Church much, Bishop, but I’m on LDS.org all the time…. Think of me as inter-active.
An Honest Jon cartoon.
