The article is not only a good exercise in testing your knowledge of the English language, it presents many sides of the issue of women and the priesthood — from LDS supporters of male-only priesthood, supporters of female ordinationin the church, and outsiders to the church. From Harvard Divinity School on the recent excommunication of Kate.

My wife showed it to me, so here are some words you might not know the meaning of, as she didn’t.

Sacerdotal: Relating to priests or the priesthood.

Epiphenomenal: A secondary phenomenon. Something that happens as a result of primary phenomenon occurring.

    Egregious: Extraordinary in some way.

Effaced: To wipe out, do away with or espunge

Congregants: People who are part of a congregation (I like that term, as its self evident what it means).

The interesting thing is that it is from Elder Holland’s son, David Holland, who teaches at the Harvard Divinity School.

I like the attempt at a balanced explanation of the various ways people in the Church look at the issue – and I love that Bro. Holland teaches there. I loved the classes I took there (cross-registration as an undergrad) and would have loved to have been able to have an LDS professor in one of those classes.

To me it shows an enlightened approach to religious education — the fact that they have brought on a Mormon as a professor on their staff. Bravo.
